*Note: This review is based on breakfasts only. We never went here for either lunch or dinner.
This old school kopitiam was right across the street from the apartment we rented during our stay in Ipoh, so we went every morning during our stay.
The place was always packed, mostly with older residents so we were always happy to get a table. We were also happy to be “adopted” by the only server in the place who spoke at least some English (*we were the only non-Malaysians there every morning). He was always very attentive in spite of being run off his feet every morning.
In this aspect we have to agree with other reviewers who have noted the spotty service. The simple reality is that they don’t have enough people attending to table service so things had a way of falling behind, or through the cracks, fairly often. This is a failing of ownership, not the servers themselves, so please be kind if you run into this issue.
As for the food, we had an opportunity to try dishes from all three vendors, with consistently excellent results. And the coffee, while not the best we had in Malaysia, was also consistently very good.
Prices are very reasonable as well. We paid anywhere from RM20 to RM 23 (CDN $5.70 - $6.60) when ordering noodles or soups with our coffee, and even less (RM 16.50; CDN $4.70) when ordering half-boiled eggs and Kaya toast.

Read moreThis place a hit and miss that is why I gave 3 stars. Hit is the stall that serves steam fish balls, clams and bean sprouts, They are really good but not their chicken legs. Miss is actually the fried noodle stall. We ordered the what tan hor and fried mee hoon. Actually nothing like what tan hor but more like lam kway teow . The taste is acceptable but the long long wait of more than one hour is not worth it. It was also really expensive. Probably 3 to 4 tiny prawns and a few slices of pork. A bowl of this for 3 persons is RM26 and was a half filled bowl. The fried mee hoon was worst, and was also RM26. Also I read that some one mentioned the long wait was due to individually frying plate by plate, which was not the case. As we sat down waiting, we were looking at the chef, he was frying a big wok, enough for a few bowls or plates at...
Read moreAn eatery frequented by locals and y'know it's one of the best tze cha. Helmed by only one chef, each order is cooked individually to maintain the quality of the food item. Their wah tan hor is on the soupy side, different from the one you'll encounter at other eatery. Each items were seasoned perfect and had great wok hey! Would definitely recommend their wah tan hor, dried hor fun and fried bee hoon noodle. the noodles would have been elevated even more if they were topped with pork lard. But definitely still a must try if you're in the area! Their appetizer dishes were really yummy too. The highlight from the appetizers were the steamed handmade fishballs and cuttlefish! Just a gentle note, do be patient if you're dining here, as shared, it's helmed by one chef, so wait time for food can be on the lengthy side! But definitely...
