The restaurant can be found at a corner of the Sunway Nexis mall. The side windows faces the car workshop across the road, not the best of views, but internally the decorations are comfortable with a few table spaces out within it. While I was dining there with my family they were working on a luxury sports car and they were testing is revving the engine and making it rather unpleasant to the ears. One of the tables were used to put the raw materials which I couldn’t understand, aren’t there enough space in the kitchen? The combination of the noise pollution and open table used for preparation made it lose some aesthetics.
The restaurant serves Szechuan style dishes. The menu is done up nicely with large visible pictures, but most of the dishes available. The menu is mainly in Chinese but there are titles and dish names in English. One has to guess the details based on the pictures and the name if one cannot read Chinese.
The lime juice (jug) comes in an IKEA bottle - yeah, not exactly a jug. They also give IKEA cups to pour the lime juice for each person. The lime juice will come in handy later.
The rice is white rice with some corn in it. It doesn’t come in a big portion, but it is not too small either.
Now to the dishes.
The first dish I want to talk about is the spicy chicken. It is chicken pieces (NOT boneless) cooked with dried chilli (kung po), and peanuts. The chicken is is coated with spicy power. Be warned; this dish is very spicy as the spicy powder used is the mala (numbing spicy) type. The lime juice comes in useful now. As most types of mala spicy powder, it probably contains MSG and hence you can get thirsty a lot later. I am not sure if I can say I enjoy this one as it is too spicy for me. For spicy mala lovers this might do well.
Next dish would be the Boiled Fish with Pickled Cabbage and Chilli. This dish is, as the name implies, fish slices with pickled cabbage and chilli, served in a broth. The fish slices are springy and smooth. There are some darker pieces with the bones so do be careful. The pickled cabbage is great (I may be biased as I loved pickled cabbages). The broth is also tasty.
The Sweet and Sour Fillet of Pork is another good dish. It has a good balance of sour and sweetness. The meat is tender and juicy. There isn’t too thick layer of batter as some other restaurants.
The vegetable dish we ordered is the Spinach Soup. It is the normal spinach with garlic in broth. As they table ran out of space (the plates are big) they assisted to split the vegetable into individual bowls for us. Taste-wise is not above average.
Overall the dishes’ prices are at the higher end but portions are decent. I could give it an overall above average for food taste. Food is served quite quickly.

Read moreWe visited this restaurant for lunch on a weekday, and there is parking available in the basement. Despite it being a weekday, the restaurant seemed to be doing quite well in terms of business. We came here specifically to try the Gold Soup Lemon Fish, which we saw recommended online. The service was prompt, and the restaurant's decorations were quiet nice. However, the cleanliness was only average, and we noticed flies inside the restaurant. It would be great if they could improve on the cleanliness of their dining tables and chairs.
For our meal, we ordered the Gold Soup Lemon Fish 金牌金汤柠檬鱼 (RM65.00), Fried Lamb with Cumin 孜然羊肉 (RM48.00), Sour & Spicy Shredded Potatoes 酸辣土豆丝 (RM22.00), and Hot & Sour Rice Noodle 酸辣粉 (RM16.00). We really enjoyed the Gold Soup Lemon Fish, but the other dishes were quite disappointing. The Fried Lamb with Cumin was alright, but the portion size was small. The Sour & Spicy Shredded Potatoes were mediocre, and the Hot & Sour Rice Noodle lacked the desired spiciness and sourness. Considering the quality and portion sizes, the overall prices were quite expensive. Total bill came up to RM192.55 for 3 pax.
It's uncertain whether their air conditioning was malfunctioning that day, but the restaurant was extremely hot and stuffy during our dining. The discomfort from the heat outside combined with the poor air circulation inside made the meal less enjoyable. Additionally, we had to wait almost 20 minutes for a bowl of rice as they had run out and needed to cook a new batch. Overall, we are unlikely to return unless it's solely for the Gold...
Read moreChina Invasion! Everytime we look for food, everywhere we go... there ought to be at least one China restaurant at one corner. Even shopping malls are not spared from the onslaught. On bright side, I have more choices when it comes to dining option.
Chuan Yue De takes a premium spot in Sunway Nexis with the outlet facing the busy main road making it noticeable everytime I passed by. Tired of eating local Chinese restaurants, I suggested this and they were game! 16 of us made it easy to order more dishes to sample...
