Ambiance and Service
The restaurant is situated within a hotel, providing a comfortable and relaxed dining environment. Many diners have highlighted the friendly and attentive service, contributing to a pleasant dining experience. However, there have been occasional reports of understaffing, leading to slower service during peak hours.
Food Quality
Mizakaya's menu features a range of Japanese dishes, including sushi, sashimi, and hot plates. Some guests have enjoyed the food, noting the unique preparation of dishes like agedashi tofu. However, others have raised concerns about the freshness of certain items. For instance, there were reports of thin and small salmon slices, unripe ebiko, and overly salty beef. Additionally, some diners found the grilled salted mackerel rice to be overly wet, affecting the overall texture. Wanderlog +1 City Reviews +1

We stumbled upon Mizakaya, a hidden Japanese restaurant, and were pleasantly surprised by the experience. At first, we thought our wallets would be in trouble, but to our delight, becoming a member gave us a complimentary Haru Sushi set, and after 7 pm, they offer free Sapporo beer!
While the service isn’t the fastest, the quality of the food makes up for it. The sashimi is always fresh, and the cawanmushi (steamed egg custard) is a standout for me—it’s not too sweet or overly soy-sauced, just the perfect natural flavor with fresh ingredients. We’ve noticed they steam the cawanmushi fresh for each order, as it always arrives last.
The sashimi is thickly sliced and generous, even for first-time customers, which was a pleasant surprise. I haven’t claimed my review gift yet, but I’m not asking for it—I’m leaving this review because I genuinely enjoyed the experience.
For just RM10, becoming a member gives you discounts of RM2 to RM5 on most dishes, which is a great deal. This was our third visit, and we’re definitely coming back.
However, I do agree with other customers who’ve mentioned that the staff tends to clear empty dishes without asking. While I believe they don’t have bad intentions, a bit more courtesy and respect towards customers would improve the overall experience. I hope the management will guide them on this.
All in all, I’m still very happy with the place and hope I won’t have to lower my rating in the future. Keep up...
Read moreWe were getting coffee from Starbucks and found this restaurant by chance. Very impressive entrance. The beautiful red lanterns attracted me. Cool door handles and well planned interior with fine dining vibe. It was not crowded at 2pm on a weekday and near to their break time (3pm), which we didn't know but were reminded to get our last order before 2.45pm. Spacious dining but the sofa seat was too low for comfort eating. It should be the same height as a dining chair. Service was great, the presentation was great, beautiful tablewares and food were almost perfect. My disappointment was that the tempuras were not as crispy as expected. It was slightly crispy on the outside but soggy and soaking with oil on the inside. To me, it meant the food was fried at too low a temperature. The teriyaki flavoured fins were unusual but good. The tiny bit of their wasabi sauce hit me like a punch. Love the miso soup...thick and very flavourful broth and surprisingly, not too salty. I normally avoid miso soup because it will either be diluted or too salty but this was just perfect. I always say there is a choice to add fine salt for those who prefer saltier food (the reason for having a saltshaker on the table) but there is no choice to reduce saltiness from the served food. Anyway, everything else was great. Very wide menu selection which we took a long time to look through. Lucky food serving was fast. Definitely must...
