Being Singaporean, it's hard to find a Chicken Rice in Malaysia that's similar to those offered in Singapore. Finally, I found Tasty Chicken Rice, recommended by a YouTube video.
The water-bathed white chicken was excellent--succulent and moist, cooked to perfection. Equally good was the roasted/deep fried version--the browner skin timely roasted/deep fried. Both were lightly showered with soya sauce, not drowned in it. 😘
The chicken rice was pearly, light and clean. Unlike others in Malaysia, the chicken rice was not discoloured or overloaded with either too much garlic or ginger, with rustic bits appearing in the rice. 😋
Chilli sauce was good, without that overpowering vinegar or lime adopted by other vendors. Unlike other vendors, Tasty Chicken Rice offers ginger/scallion sauce on the side, which is a great accompaniment for any chicken rice, although I think the latter is more a Cantonese practice rather than Hainanese. 😋
As extra, we had some well-roasted char siew. I'm not a big fan of char siew, but no complaints with this version either. 😁
Personally, I love soup. The chicken soup was a par above others, with an underlying hint of preserved mustard greens and tomato--and, best of all, served hot! 😋
The restaurant is clean and tidy, waited by foreign workers who spoke good-enough English, and were efficient and busy cleaning up and serving customers diligently. The husband-and-wife proprietors were commanding and polite, not arrogant nor rude as claimed by some reviewers here.
Overall, a great experience; and my partner and I will happily revisit Tasty Chicken...

The Man boss has always a pleasant smile to his customers which is very nice the good vibes in him and from the boys who are at the front counter cutting and packing the food, they are also very nice but I don't like a lady who at times seats at the cashier who does not even know to say thank you to a customer or maybe she chooses who she wants to be nice and who she doesn't. This will definitely come up one day by someone writing it up if it's not me because its rather obvious. I read the article of the story of how the Tasty chicken rice started which is impressive however.. I don't see the connection anymore as the chicken rice quality has slightly dropped like chicken seems rather hard at times but surprisingly the Cha Siew rice taste much way better but sometimes when I buy the cha siew it's only full of fat like couple days back that I noticed. Now your price is expensive so we also want the quality of what we pay for right! There must be a balance. Come on guys.. buckle up cause I use to enjoy your food once. For those who had probably decided to come and eat here suddenly seeing they were close, I hope this new business operating hours information will...
Read moreIf you're looking for some seriously delicious roasted or steamed chicken rice and simple dishes, you've gotta check out Restaurant Tasty Chicken Rice in Dataran Sunway, Kota Damansara. Even though it's not a traditional Chinese restaurant, they sure know how to make some great Hainan chicken rice. In fact, they were crowned the Malaysian Hainan Chicken Rice Open Competition champion back in 2007.
The chicken is juicy and tender, and the rice is fragrant and flavorful. The chili sauce that comes with it adds a nice little kick, too. But if you're not in the mood for chicken rice, they have a few other dishes to choose from, like the deliciously simple stir-fried bean sprouts or their Sour Vegetables and Stewed Chicken Feet.
The service is friendly and the prices are reasonable, so it's definitely worth a visit. Just don't expect a fancy ambiance – it's a pretty basic setup. But who needs fancy decor when you've got amazing food, right? All in all, Restaurant Tasty Chicken Rice is a great spot to satisfy your chicken...
