Located in Happy Mansion at Section 17 sits this small eatery serving local favourites like Nasi Lemak, Mee Bandung and nonya kuih. Their popular Cendol and Ice Kacang draws people who have just finished their lunch at nearby restaurants as well for an icy dessert.
Parking in this area is not easy, especially during lunch time as many make a beeline for the nearby chicken rice and other restaurants. You might get away by parking along the road outside as there is a school next door and you will find cars parked there as well.
Not too many tables inside the shop (about 5 inside and 3 outside), but it has an interesting bar in the middle of the shop which allows about 3 to 4 persons to sit at the bar area. However, the location of this bar seating area is not exactly convenient as either side of the bar would have either a table or you'd be blocking the queue line on the left.
The cendol and ice kachang are a sweet treat for many, I especially liked it because the texture of the ice shaving was finer than most other shops selling the same thing. There is also the liberal use of gula melaka and santan, resulting in a richer taste.
The nonya kuih on sale were alright, not exactly a must have. Each box was RM3, and that was a little on the pricier side. The cendol and ice kacang has also gone up in price to RM6...
Read moreMy husband and I are regulars at Sistars, usually visiting on Sundays to indulge in our cravings for Nyonya Laksa and Choy Poh Chee Cheong Fun (CCF). These two dishes, along with their delicious cendol, are what keep us coming back.
The Nyonya Laksa, available only on weekends, is truly our favorite. The coconut milk broth is packed with flavor. It’s the perfect comfort food and has somewhat become a weekend tradition for us.
Another favorite is the Choy Poh Chee Cheong Fun. What sets it apart is the unique combination of preserved radish and soy sauce in the flat rice noodles, which gives the dish a home taste twist that you won’t find in typical CCFs. Most places serve it with a sweet sauce or curry, but Sistars’ version is distinct and incredibly satisfying to us.
For dessert, you can’t miss their cendol. The gula Melaka is fragrant and authentic, rounding off your meal perfectly.
Despite being a small, popular spot, the service is fast. Sistars is your neighborhood kedai makan. Keep in mind that it can get crowded, especially during lunch hours and weekends. Parking can also be a challenge during peak hours, so it's worth arriving early. They...
Read moreTucked into the retro concrete embrace of Happy Mansion, a 1960s apartment complex that’s aged like your grandmother’s enamel tiffin, slightly faded, but full of stories, SISTARS Kitchen serves up a slice of old-school Malaysian charm with zero pretension, and 100 percent humidity.
Famous for their cendol and ABC, this place doesn’t just serve dessert, it commits to it. The gula Melaka drips like sweet nostalgia, the shaved ice comes in gentle avalanche form, and by the time you hit the red beans, you’re already planning your next visit.
The menu is a parade of local staples, chee cheong fun smothered in sweet sauce, mee siam with a tangy kick, choy pou chee cheong fun that crackles with savoury crunch, and kuih muih so authentic you’ll start hearing your late auntie’s voice in your head telling you to sit up straight.
No air conditioning, just ceiling fans, and the unspoken heat of communal nostalgia, and yet it’s always packed, like a time machine everyone’s trying to squeeze into during lunch hour.
Come for the food, stay for the sweat, leave with a smile, and possibly a...
