Wu felt like another hyperaesthetic cafe with much of its pull factor mostly for that perfect Instagram photo. While I appreciate the raw design and setting, it was lacking a lot of warmth one would want to find in a cafe, with most of the concrete finishing causing a lot of echos and sound bouncing off the walls, which makes dining in a full house an overall unpleasant experience.
Service was severely lacking as well, as we were simply led to a table and told to order at the counter. As I looked for the ordering point, the girl manning the cashier just looked at me blankly without saying anything while I wondered if I was at the correct place. Then I proceeded to order our drinks, only for the girl to cut me off mid-sentence and ask "What table number?" I didn't realize we had table numbers so I gestured to where we were sat, and had to quite literally raise my voice to be heard (as the echo from a full house was unbearable).
As I returned to my seat we found a transparent circle sticker with the number 11 barely visible on it, and had our drinks served by simply being placed on the table without saying anything.
Coffee was a tad too punchy for my taste, there was no harmony with the milk, had a lot of charred, bitter aftertaste and the volume of my flat white felt like I was sipping on a bowl of soup. Latte art game is a solid 10 (out of 10) though but I probably don't foresee myself returning.
Overall nice aesthetics but it felt unpractical and a little hostile because of the amount of noise that bounces off the walls when there is plenty of...
Read moreOverpriced brownies. The price is totally crazy for this small piece of brownie. We asked the staff if the brownie is fresh before we order, the staff claimed that the brownie came fresh yesterday so we ordered. The staff also recommended us to add ice cream on top of the brownie, just add rm3. We said okay. Turns out the brownie cost rm15 and add the rm3 ice cream total rm18 for the brownie.and they didn't write the price display at all. We thought it's okay maybe the brownie taste " very good" . Turns out the brownie came so pathetic. So tiny and the scoop of ice cream is totally a joke.
Brownie: taste like those unfresh frozen brownie from supermarket. Texture wise is horrible. Worst brownie I have ever tasted. I have tried better brownie from other cafes and they cost half of this brownie price only🫢 I wonder what this cafe put in their brownie ,make them so confident to quote the price like that.
The scoop of ice cream: I immediately burst into laughter when I saw the ice cream. Super tiny. I don't mind if it's walls supermarket ice cream, but at least I expect the scoop of ice cream is those normal standard scoop not this pathetic scoop for the extra rm3 lol. At least I spent rm18 to make myself laugh.
Please improve your brownie if you want to put this price. The price and the quality is not compatible at all. It's so funny when your brownie taste awful and you price it like a hotel standard brownie.
Main food : nothing to amaze, acceptable.
Staff: feels like untrained staff.
Overall 3/10 . Will...
Read moreCome for the coffee, and stay for their Japanese-inspired food.
Wu Coffee has been around for many years, even pre-MCO. An empty space converted by the people behind Mobius Academy of Art & Designs, you will notice the young team (the students) serving the crowd as you walk into the raw & minimalist, greyish and grittish cafe. The wall and floor are made out of raw cement & exposed bricks to give it a sense of modern industrial feel, complemented by leafy plants.
Food is served from the next door shop which used to house Sanyoso Mazesoba, also part of their group. Expect comfort food such as ramen & soba, as well as snacks such as chashu & fried stuff + Japanese roll.
◾chashu shoyu ramen - felt like eating authentic Japanese ramen complete with leek, soft delicious chashu, egg and spring onions ◾chashu aka spicy ramen - a spicy option for those who want some kick in their broth. The chilly oil was quite fragrant yet not too spicy. ◾shoyu dumpling - generous filling with the same broth as the ramen. ◾chilly oil dumpling - spicy alternative again. ◾Ika karaage - crunchy and tasty with a killer aoili to match, but portion could be better. ◾coffee - go for their pour over coffee if you're a connoisseur, or regular milk-based espresso such as ice latte or flat white. Kombucha and tea are also available.
Do take note that rice bowl option for the chashu is also available if you can't live without rice.
Rather popular among the youngs in this area, as witnessed by yours truly on my numerous visits...
