I recently had dinner at The King’s Curry, Kuching, and it was a delightful experience overall. The restaurant offers an inviting ambience with warm décor and Indian touches that make the dining space feel cozy and authentic. It is a good place for both casual meals and family gatherings, and the lively atmosphere adds to the charm.
Food-wise, the menu has a wide selection of Indian dishes, and most of what we tried was flavorful and satisfying. The highlight for me was definitely the cheese naan, which lived up to its reputation. It was soft, cheesy, and perfectly complemented the curries. We also tried the mutton curry and chicken masala, both of which had rich spice blends and aromatic gravies. The murtabak daging is also worth mentioning — a dish that was filling, savory, and nicely prepared. Portions were generous, and the food came out in good time despite the restaurant being fairly busy.
The service was friendly and attentive, with the staff checking in to ensure everything was fine. They were polite and ready to recommend dishes, which is always appreciated when a menu is extensive. Prices are on the slightly higher side compared to small local eateries, but given the portion sizes, quality, and overall atmosphere, I would say it is reasonable.
That said, there is a bit of room for improvement. Some side items like chutneys and drinks felt a little pricey compared to the main dishes. A few reviews mention inconsistency, but on my visit everything tasted fresh and hot.
Overall, The King’s Curry is one of the better Indian dining spots in Kuching, especially if you enjoy flavorful curries, naan, and tandoori dishes in a comfortable setting. I would gladly return and recommend...
Read moreBeen patronizing this place even before King's Curry branch opened here and a regular to this place until we know the familiar sight of " Uncle" with bald head who is the owner.
Food is always good and have always been. Usually we go for the mixed rice with variety of curry dishes of vegetable or meat. Today we had the cheesy naan, which is very cheesy indeed and stretches like mozzarella on pizza. Also had roti canai susu because we like both crispy and sweet combo (the susu is the condensed milk filling in the crispy pastry like roti canai)
Atmosphere wise, it is very cosy and you will hear Hindustani or Tamil music in the background which is not too loud and choices of music is soothing to the ears.
This place used to be a bar and Uncle bought it, renovating it but still keeps the bar which is the cashier counter and the mini stage for some events later.
There are not many Indian shop in Kuching and this is one of the places to go for a good meal. Plus it is clean and you can see the kitchen where the cooks prepare the meal. Toilet is also very clean and this place rating is A, which is exactly as it is and...
Read moreI absolutely love the Cheezy Naan (Rm12), best eaten while it's still hot, very satisfying when pulling the bread apart, the bread has a slight rough texture or crust but soft and moist on the inside, the curry dipping sauce is creamy and smooth with a hint of spiciness.
The Mutton Rogan Jos (Rm30) is delicious, you can taste tons of spices and the amount of work being put into this dish, the mutton is very tender and the meat falls apart easily, however slightly disappointed with the portion, the price does not justify the portion which is only good enough for 2 paxs (in my opinion).
Nothing to rave about the Chix Tika Kebab (Rm20), the meat is dry all the way to the core, strangely it did not retain any moisture, nonetheless the presentation is good. I'd probably suggest you to skip this dish.
Lastly is the Ayam Bakar (Rm13) which is not that bad.
Overall good experience, air conditioned restaurant, parking slightly difficult to find during certain hours, good customer service, but I think the price is slightly on...
