Be wary, DO NOT EAT HERE if you value service treatment. Ladyboss scoop food so tiny portion, scooped 4 pieces of fish, put back 1 piece 🥹 so rude like you eat for free - “ha what else, ya this pork, this chicken, what else”. Hello you are in f&b very competitive market, some more you are in a food saturated area where you have so many competitors.
This shop also uses trickery and illusion of many people around the shop but is actually all their own family members, shop is actually empty and devoid of REAL customers hence need to trick customers in. When I entered I already had a gut feeling screaming at me to leave and find food elsewhere, turns out I was right. The uncles inside and outside (orange shirt) keep stealing glances at each other lol (don’t so obvious la) Anyway first and last time we give business to this establishment.
Whole family face so chuan and sombong, you reap what you sow, if you treated customer ok, then I would wish you be in business longer. But I won’t do that.
Went to the back, and they were handling veggies on the road. So, you decide whether to patronise this establishment or otherwise. Just like other comments, I would recommend Rice King Padungan, Little Fairy Cafe (they serve traditional local cuisine, and delicious laksa sarawak, all at a very service and price at that!). These both establishments are just within...

We were surprised that we couldn’t find it at first! Turns out, they relocated next door and renovated 😮 now, there’s AC and of course, with the classier look, the prices must be different😅. Customer service is as usual - the uncle there is the same style la 😎 it adds to the authenticity of the restaurant anyway - I guess that’s what makes it special. I tried to say hi! No eye contact 😅😅
The cuisine served? SPOT on. The Kacang Mah 🔥🔥 whalao… I haven’t had that for years, and it tasted soo good, same like years ago. Purposely, I chose half rice, because wanted to eat more ‘liao’. Manichai again, delicious. Michelle enjoyed the curry on her rice, and the French beans with egg.
I realise that they deliberately cook in small batches, because the smaller the batch, the more love there is to each dish. It runs out fast, but then, it’s refilled quick, so the dishes always remain hot and fresh. More work for the staff- but perhaps that’s one of the reasons they’re doing so well. The place was FULL of patrons, and the line was never ending.
I finished up with another Teh C Special. So so nice 🥹 really miss this aspect of Kuching. One can find teh tarik in almost everywhere else in the world - but definitely not...
Read moreI consider myself a regular at this establishement. The price is higher than most "fastfood/economy rice", no doubt and people are starting to complain that the portion is getting smaller in Facebook, BUT, Country Kitchen kinda position themselves a bit different from other "chapfan" places.
The dishes are delicious, almost every one of it is good to my picky tongue. There were times when I used to stay in Samarahan I would intentionally come down town JUST to eat at Country Kitchen. I have a few favourites of my own- curry chicken, stir fry okra, fried groundnuts and anchovies in asam jawa juice, the pork dishes (any), palin old trusty chapchai. Nothing feels like a filler here.
This place also offers claypot soupy dishes like kacama (motherwort + rice liquor + ginger soup) and foochow redwie (?) soup- though I have never tried before. Drinks are well made. I have no qualms. Just glad that I can eat delicious stuffs conveniently within town, albiet having to fork out a bit more. Don't compare this place with...
