I have been a regular customer at this restaurant for quite some time, even though it’s located far from my home and for good reason! Every visit here feels worthwhile because the food is consistently excellent, freshly prepared, and bursting with authentic flavours.
The stir-fried ginger onion grouper fillet is always a standout: the fish is perfectly tender and bathed in a fragrant sauce filled with ginger and scallion aroma. The balance between the mild fish and the punchy aromatics is masterful, making every bite deeply satisfying.
The beancurd and beancurd skin dish is another highlight. The silky smoothness of the tofu skin combined with the slightly chewy texture of the beancurd skin, all coated in a light savoury sauce and accompanied by fresh green vegetables, creates a wonderful contrast of textures and flavours. It’s a comforting dish that feels both hearty and nourishing.
The stir-fried pork belly with sweet green chili was a delightful surprise. The pork is tender and flavorful, paired beautifully with the mild heat and sweetness of the green and red chilies. This dish strikes a great balance between savoury, slightly spicy, and sweet, making it incredibly addictive.
The pork curry puff is a true gem on the menu. The pastry is crispy and golden, enclosing a rich, flavourful pork filling with just the right blend of spices.
Lastly, the stuffed bittergourd in broth is a dish that really shows the chef’s skill. The bittergourd is tender but not mushy, and the stuffing inside, usually a mix of minced meat and herbs, soaks up the light, flavourful broth beautifully. Even if you’re not usually a fan of bittergourd, this dish might just change your mind with its subtle, well-rounded flavours.
Overall, every dish here is cooked with care and attention to detail. The flavours are authentic, the ingredients are fresh, and the presentation is inviting. I happily make the journey here regularly, despite the distance, because I know I can always count on an excellent, satisfying meal. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates good...
Read moreThis nostalgic place serves authentic Chinese cuisine and for the portion and price, it's actually reasonable. This is my first visit after MCO and the food didn't disappoint. As it was still within Chinese New Year celebrations, there's a special menu for the occasion but most of the dishes ordered were familiar ones. First up, the Mini Abalone Fried Rice for 2 persons. Portion is more than sufficient to feed 3 or 4 even. Good wok hei and just right amount of seasoning. Not overly salty which is great to go with dishes. Next is the Tofu with Gourd and the tofu remained smooth eventhough it was deep fried. Sauce is tasty and lightly seasoned. Some may find it a bit bland but I like it as it is. You'll appreciate the natural flavours of the tofu and gourd. Now the unhealthy part, pork rib with special sauce. Very tasty, meat is tender and sauce is sweet and appetising. It's a bit salty, sour, lightly spicy and sweet being the dominant flavour here. A bit too sweet for me but then again, it's how it usually made in most places. Overall dishes are nice and appetising with generous portions. Portions for 2 persons is more like 3 to 4 for average size eaters. Overall still good after all these years. Also try their signature Pork Curry Puffs, for me personally tastier than the Swedish...
Read moreI ordered the Cantonese Style Crispy Noodle. This weekday lunch set cost RM 13.90 nett (26 Nov 2020) and included a drink either Chinese tea or But Chee Choh (herbal drink). The amount of noodle (Yee Meen) given was generous but the taste was average. The noodle wasn't crispy. The noodle came with 4 pieces of prawn, a few slices of lean pork, some cabbage and carrot strips.
2019 Review The restaurant was located next door to The Core Hotel and opened probably about 20 years ago. At the entrance to welcome customers were a glass screen with water flowing down to a pond, a gold fish spouting out water onto the screen and an aquarium on the left with two fishes - one was pretty big.
Being a Friday, I ordered their weekday lunch set of braised chicken with mushroom and young ginger rice@ RM13.90 nett (include 10% service charge and 6% SST) that came with a glass of herbal tea (or Chinese tea). The set lunch was splendid. The chicken was well braised being tender and deeply infused with the flavours of the mushroom and ginger. The herbal drink was good too, not the watered down versions found in some restaurants or...
