Located at the Bandar Puteri commercial area, the restaurant is clean, spacious and well set up. Been reading a lot of good reviews about this restaurant and finally able to walk in at 5:40pm without needing to queue. Interestingly, most of the waiters are from Myanmar, they are very friendly and helpful but i really thought that there would be some mainland chinese workers instead so they can be more effective in recommending dishes. Ordered their Signature mince chili pepper fish head and was informed it will take 30 mins to prepare which was fine for me. But the result was poorly thawed fish head cut into smaller pieces and overcooked therefore lacked any tenderness. There’s also too much ginger inside thus overpower the supposedly main ingredient of the dish which is the mince chili pepper. Also ordered the sautéed sliced beancurd which was actually not bad, but for some they also added in quite a few chopped ginger, which is really unexpected and unnecessary in my opinion. Most likely won’t come back here again. Not recommended. Price is reasonable though. Menu is pretty extensive, don’t know many of them are also...
Read moreThis corner restaurant on "China Street" in Kuchai Lama has been a pioneer in serving authentic cuisine from China's Hunan province for years, years before the influx of similar establishments in the area. Its enduring popularity can be attributed to the consistent quality of its food, making it my go-to spot for spicy Chinese cuisine.
During our recent visit, 4 adults enjoyed the following dishes: Stir-fried hand-torn cabbage - the best in KL. Hot pepper sauce frog meat - both spicy and flavorful. Laziji, deep-fried chicken cubes with dry chili - a must-try dish. Stir-fried eggplant with minced pork - perfect complement to white rice. Deep-fried buns with condensed milk - simple and delicious.
The interior, though simple and unchanged over the years, may not be considered the epitome of comfort, yet it maintains cleanliness. However, parking can be a challenge during dinner, especially on weekends.
We spent around RM240 for the dishes. While the price is on the higher side, it was a satisfying meal that fulfilled our occasional craving for...
Read moreI will state the obvious here: if you look for Hunan or Sichuan food, come with the mindset that the food will be spicy and salty. That way you won't complain about overly salty food.
Now that I got that out of the way, yes I did enjoy the food. The modest cabbage was turned into this super tasty dish that was crunchy and full of umami (layered pork belly that added taste). Next up was the deep fried spicy chicken with dried chilli. Popcorn chicken with a bite! Spicy prawns in Hunan special sauce was ok. Prawns were deep fried and came with sauce (that was salty - no surprises). Fish slices in golden chilli sauce was tasty too. But don't let its looks fool you - in there is some spice that is not red! Ma po tofu and claypot deer meat were nothing to shout about.
We went on a weekday. No waiting time and service was brisk. Plenty of paid parking too.
They could improve on the air conditioning. It was an exhilarating experience - sweating yet enjoying the spicy food. Places like these and steamboat restaurants ought to lock their...
