Extremely Disappointed – Not Worth the Hype

I visited Star Rest Restaurant this morning with my son after a hospital appointment, expecting a decent meal in what is advertised as a large, high-capacity restaurant. With over 100 seats and a reputation for variety, I assumed we’d be well taken care of.

Unfortunately, the experience was utterly disappointing from the moment we walked in. The restaurant was dull and lifeless, with no welcoming atmosphere whatsoever. Despite being seated near the waitstaff, we were completely ignored—no greeting, no menu, nothing. I had to wave and call out to get someone’s attention, and even then, it took nearly a minute for a waitress standing just beside us to respond.

When I politely asked if they could prepare a simple fruit plate for my son, the waitress bluntly replied, “As you can see, it’s not in the menu.” I was genuinely shocked. A restaurant that offers a wide variety of fresh fruit juices couldn’t be bothered to prepare a fruit plate? That’s not just inconvenient—it shows a lack of flexibility, professionalism, and basic customer service.

This wasn’t my first bad experience here. A few months ago, I visited again and sat on the terrace. The loud, blaring Sinhala music from the juice counter made it impossible to have a conversation. Even after requesting the volume be turned down, another staff member came shortly after and turned it right back up. Completely inconsiderate and unprofessional.

To top it off, the menu looked like an ancient, tattered piece of paper—unreadable and uncared for. The whole experience felt like the place is running on autopilot with no management oversight.

If I could give this place half a star, I would. Save your time and money—there are far better restaurants nearby that actually care about their customers.

My colleagues ordered a chicken kottu roshi and a passion fruit drink, which they requested to share as they found individual portions too heavy. The staff graciously accommodated this, preparing a perfectly portioned drink to suit their needs.

I opted for a chicken Caesar salad and a banana milkshake. The salad was delightful, though the chicken could have been fresher. Nonetheless, the overall experience, from the food to the ambiance, was highly enjoyable.
