I’m afraid these must be fake reviews to compete with the better restaurants nearby. Looking at other guests they also seemed quite unhappy here. I ordered a duck pate and the rabbit ravioli - duck pate tasted canned and came with white sliced bread that had the crust cut off and toasted - this was the first red flag. Entre came extremely late even when it was clear I was done, while guests who arrived after me got their food first (even before guests who came ahead of me?). Rabbit ravioli came recommended from the waiter but was almost inedible. Extremely thick gooey sauce, thick pasta that was doughy and chewy and thick on one side while the meat was on the other side. Rabbit itself had a bit of a grainy taste. Thick on thick with a weird sauce where the alcohol wasn’t cooked down enough. I tried to eat since I was hungry but couldn’t get through 2 pieces.
I gave my feedback to the waiter who saw I didn’t eat my food and asked me. I was greeted with a “thank you for the feedback” but nothing else, not even a drink :) not that I needed that but it shows they don’t care much.
Would not come back.
UPDATE reply to owner: clearly from the response it shows no accountability nor care. That’s too bad. He even talks about “it depends on how much a guest spends” while I bought a starter, their “most popular” entre, and 2 drinks on a solo dinner - I guess you have to be a couple or spend an exuberant amount for them to treat you better. There are better restaurants on the street, the attitude of the owner clearly shows he can’t...
Read moreIt is difficult to find excellent restaurants at the seafront in Sliema. Most restaurants are specialized in serving cheap food for hungry tourists. But there are some exceptions, and the Il Galeone is one of them. I had "Calamari Fritti" as a starter. The Calamari had been freshly made and tasted excellent. The menu stated it would be served with a "Sauce Tartare" but that turned out to be Crème fraîche with some parsley. That is ok, you can do that, but please state it on the menu (7/10). The main course was Spaghetti with langoustine, octopus and clamps. The pasta was a bit on the harder "al dente" side, but ok. The sauce was a tiny bit too spicy for me, but other people may like this. But the seafood was super fresh and delicious. (7/10). I chose a small bottle of Chablis, and it was excellent. Service was superb. Despite my personal disliking of the spicy pasta sauce, I would recommend...
Read moreJust had half a dinner here. The waitress was a nightmare. First she refused to let us sit inside and made us sit on the pavement with the smokers because she said she'd "have to prepare a table." WHAT? Isn't that exactly what she's paid to do? We tried for 5 mins but my wife is allergic so we insisted we wanna sir inside. But then she goes "someone else took that table". Nice! The last straw was when she told us right after we ordered a soup and starter that we need to order everything else all at once "since the kitchen is busy!" That's when it got hilarious. So the people who came 10 mins later didn't order? Or the people who come 20 mins later? We are on a holiday and want to enjoy a meal at ease taking time to think about what we order. She's be better off working a counter at a fast food joint. Guess it worked out well since the 'fish soup' only had...
