You walk in expecting a modest little collection — a few paintings, maybe a dusty bust of someone important if you squint. And then suddenly, boom, they hit you with more art than the building can physically handle. It’s like the curators kept saying “Oh, and put this one up too” until every wall had the visual density of a Renaissance flea market.
Does it feel cluttered? A little. Do I care? Not really — if the choice is between “too much art” and “not enough art,” I know where I stand.
Now, about those little description signs: lovely idea, questionable execution. Sometimes the different language sections aren’t separated into paragraphs. It’s not a disaster, but after a while, you start reading everything twice.
The building itself is gorgeous — the kind of place you wish you could rent for a long weekend and pretend you inherited. Staff are friendly, the atmosphere is relaxed, and despite the occasional wall feeling like a visual game of Tetris, the experience is...
Read moreHave just visited with a group of pensioner friends of mine. We enjoyed the visit greatly and look forward to another once the weather gets cooler. For a small country like ours it is good to see such a high level of exhibits both foreign and local. The layout is good enough and in a few cases lighting could be better . However, one item that mars the visit is the lack of good identification of exhibits. Some labels were misplaced and others virtually non existent not even and "Unknown Artist" (if that be the case). It makes the exhibition look rather shoddy. Above all I wonder why the nameplates labelling the works of art are not placed adjacent to the painting itself rather than far away from it. Besides adding to the confusion, the documentarist / student would not have a good record of his photographs to consult later on. Otherwise a major leap forward from the previous venue at South Street and also...
Read moreLady in the shop shouted at me when I wanted to buy a gift. Museum is nice as well as collection showed, but then exit is in the shop. I went here to have a look at some souvenirs to buy and lady in the shop literally shouted at me that they have a revision and shop is closed (no information at the door or in the shop at the same time), I was alone and it was 10 am. Museum and shop work since 9 am. I asked that I bought ticket 30 mins before and I cannot buy planner no? She started to shout at me and that I can visit another shop. I am a tourist and I have no idea where to find another shop. Awful experience. Hope museum manager will pay attention to this review as after all I have very negative experience and no planner. If you have a revision please at least close a door...
