✨ Review for Papannis, Strait Street, Valletta ✨
Today we once again chose Papannis for our Sunday lunch – and once again, it was an outstanding experience. Every time we visit, we are treated like royalty. The staff are always warm and welcoming, especially Chef Milos, who works wonders in the kitchen, and Graziella, whose dedication and charm make guests feel at home.
The food never disappoints – always fresh, beautifully presented, and bursting with flavor. For starters, we enjoyed smoked tuna and Parma ham served with scallops and cream cheese – a perfect balance of taste and texture. For the main course, I had stuffed turkey with roasted potatoes, cooked to perfection, while my wife had risotto nero (sepia with king prawns), which was simply divine. To complement the meal, we shared a bottle of White Gavi di Gavi – the ideal pairing for our dishes.
What makes Papannis truly special, beyond the exquisite food, is the atmosphere and people behind it. Owner Jake is not only generous and hospitable but also takes time to greet and connect with his guests, making the dining experience personal and memorable. His brother Joshua adds a touch of warmth and elegance, ensuring everything runs smoothly with genuine care for every diner.
Papannis is a place we’ve returned to many times, and each visit feels just as special as the first. The consistency of quality, service, and hospitality is remarkable. The restaurant is located in the heart of Valletta’s historic Strait Street, giving it a unique charm and character that blends perfectly with its culinary excellence.
We highly recommend this restaurant to all our guests at Valletta Apartments 19, as well as to our friends and family. It is without doubt a 10/10 experience – worth every cent for the quality and service provided. Do make sure to book ahead, as it fills up quickly, a clear sign of how beloved this place is.

Read moreYesterday, we dined at Papannis Restaurant in Valletta, and it was an unforgettable experience. Situated on Strait Street, it’s very easy to find, making it a convenient choice for both locals and visitors. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, perfect for an intimate evening or a casual night out.
I had the Salmon Wellington, and it was absolutely to die for—perfectly cooked salmon wrapped in a golden, flaky pastry. My wife had the Salmon La Maltese, and she found it excellent, with fresh ingredients and perfectly balanced flavors. We paired our meal with a bottle of Falanghina wine, which was so delicious and refreshing.
The service was exceptional. Graziella, our waitress, was incredibly sweet and dedicated to her job—you could tell right away. The owner, Jake, is generous and humble, making you feel welcome and eager to return. His brother, Joshua, was equally kind and attentive, adding to the restaurant’s charm.
Papannis is just one of their family-owned restaurants. If you’re in Valletta, and if you’re up for a drive, Merkanti Village in Had Dingli specializes in Maltese cuisine.
We suggest booking ahead, as this spot is popular with good reason! I am attaching a 20/10 review—yes, 20/10, as they definitely deserve this rating for their hard work, dedication, and determination to take this business to the next level.
I highly recommend Papannis Restaurant to all our guests, friends, and followers for a memorable dining experience...
Read moreSorry to say we had a bad experience here. The menu says "all mains come with roast potatoes". I ordered chicken, which came on a bed of mash and topped with peanuts, which was not mentioned on the menu. I removed them, but potentially an issue for allergy sufferers. My fiancee ordered the fish dish and got just that. A plate of fish. So no roast potatoes for either of us. I left most of my chicken dish as I was unimpressed to not get what I had ordered. When collecting our plates the waiter asked if everything was OK, and I said it wasn't really and explained the reasons above. He just said "ok" and took the plates away. We waited 15 minutes but we're not offered dessert menus so I asked for the bill. The same waiter then came over with the card machine and said "press here to leave a tip". This was not well received by myself and I left him knowing there would certainly be no tip. Eventually a more senior member of staff intervened and kindly took the cost of one of the meals off the bill when we explained what had happened (he seemed surprised the potatoes hadn't arrived). This gesture was appreciated but the damage was done. Our worst experience dining in Malta by a very long way. There are much better options in Valetta of very high standards and far more reasonably priced. Don't waste your time here where they don't even serve what they put...
