We had the tasting menu with wine pairing at Risette —around €200 per person. The food was thoughtful, the pairings were well chosen, and the service was... fine. But when you price an evening like this, you’re not just charging for food. You’re offering an experience. And that’s where things fell apart.
The dining room was freezing. We walked in and immediately reached for our extra layers—because yes, we came prepared for a summer evening, not an arctic dinner. Over the course of nearly three hours, the cold became unbearable. We actually had to stop the tasting midway because we simply couldn’t sit through another course in those conditions.
When we raised the issue with the staff, we were met not with care, but with dismissal. A shrug and a “why didn’t you say so?”—as if a paying guest should be responsible for flagging a room temperature issue in a supposedly curated fine-dining environment. That’s the point: we’re here to be taken care of. That’s what €200 per person should include—attention to detail, ambiance, and physical comfort. Not just plated food.
In the end, it wasn’t the cold that ruined the night. It was the total lack of awareness that anyone paying this much is paying for more than just what’s...

Rarely is the palate moved to such emotion, but in this culinary sanctuary, every bite is an echo of wonder. To visit Malta and not surrender to dining in this place would be a lament that would haunt the soul through the years.

Read moreAfter an intense two days of networking at the Mediterranean Conference centre, I treated myself to a dinner at Risette, and what a treat it was indeed! I had read online about their exceptional sourdough bread. As a hobby sourdough baker, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. To be brief: the bread was exceptional! And that was only the start. Every one of the appetizers and dishes was created with a tremendous amount of respect for the main ingredients. No convoluted dishes, just pure flavours, perfectly balanced. Besides the food, the service is also amazing. I ended up being the last guest in the restaurant and had a super interesting conversation with both the owner and the chef on sourdough, cooking and what makes culinary experiences exceptional. They even gave me some of their sourdough starter to take home with me. I can definitely say my bread and pizzas are better than ever. Thanks to the owner Matthew and his entire team. I will definitely visit again and hope to also stay at the...
