Bistro 23Four — Restaurant in Victoria

We had limited time in Gozo for the afternoon and restaurant advised food will take 20mins to be ready. However after waiting more than 40mins and seeing at least 2 tables who came after us have had their food, we went to complain and was told food was coming. We waited another 10mins and decided it was enough and wanted to just pay for the drinks and leave. The owner refused to let us leave and said food is being cooked right now and behaved very aggressively towards us. He was swearing and screaming at us in front of other customers even those with young children. He even shoved my friend. He then insisted we pay for the food which we did and then threatening to pack the food for us with a "surprise". He did not in the end intend to give us any food. Thankfully there was police near the restaurant and we got their help to make an official report of this incident. Small restaurant mainly outdoor seating. Situated at the left hand corner of George Square adjacent to the beautiful church. There is a varied menu and a fine selection of wines and liquor. There are sharing starter platters.A big range of pastas, meat and chicken dishes. A friend had a Calamari Basket. Looked interesting but i don't like fish. I had a beautiful traditional maltese beef Bragioli in a wonderful gravy. Chips and bread were brought as side dishes. Waiters were friendly and service was excellent . A fried rabbit at 24,50€ that is a very normal fried rabbit (and included no liver, but maybe it got lost in the “cutlery change “….more on that later ) is slightly overpriced. As is 3,60€ for a large bottle of water. But I get it, you are paying for the location as well as the food.

What took the biscuit was being charged 50 cents each for a cutlery change between courses …. It feels like a scam because you are asked if you want to change your cutlery and never dream you are going to be charged for it. Why spoil your customers’ experience with this nonsense ?
