Exceptional Indian Dining Experience at Indra – A Hidden Gem in Port Louis on the Waterfront
During our recent visit to Mauritius, we had the absolute pleasure of dining at Indra, an Indian restaurant beautifully located in Port Louis at the waterfront. From start to finish, the experience was outstanding.
The setting is perfect — peaceful yet vibrant, with views of the water and a relaxed atmosphere. Whether you’re looking for a romantic evening or a memorable meal with friends, Indra offers the ideal backdrop.
What truly sets Indra apart is the food. The menu is a celebration of authentic Indian cuisine, prepared with care, precision, and passion. We tried the butter chicken, lamb rogan josh, and a selection of vegetarian curries — every dish was rich in flavor, perfectly spiced, and beautifully presented. The garlic naan was fluffy and fresh from the tandoor, and the basmati rice was cooked to perfection.
The staff were incredibly welcoming and professional. They took the time to explain the dishes, recommend pairings, and adjust spice levels to suit our preferences. A special mention must go to the owner, who was absolutely charming — warm, attentive, and genuinely passionate about his restaurant and guests’ satisfaction.
We were honestly surprised to see a few negative reviews on Google — they are completely unfounded in our experience. Everything from the food to the service was excellent, and we would recommend Indra without hesitation.
Indra is not just a restaurant — it’s an experience. If you’re in Mauritius and looking for top-quality Indian food in a beautiful location, this place is a must-visit. We’ll definitely be returning on...

The food, the service, the ambiance , the environment - everything is bad!!! At first, the waiter served cold and non-crispy papad (saying it is the very last batch). For the main course, he served chicken kadai when we ordered paneer kadai and we are all pure vegetarians.. and the waiter acted like it was not a mistake and a very normal occurance.
The drinks were extra-lemony and bitter!!
In short, they served non-veg food to pure vegetarians. Please ignore this restaurant. After doing such blunder the staff were non-cognisant of this terrible mistake.
We left after 15-20 min having experienced completely rubbish food,...
