I visited La Kaza Grand Baie with my family yesterday for my birthday dinner. I had booked a table for three a week in advance, but when we arrived after a 50 minute drive, our reservation wasn't there. Thankfully, there were tables available since we arrived early but I can’t imagine how it would have turned out if the restaurant had been full. The welcome was rather cold. One waitress in particular made us feel unwelcome, as if Mauritians weren’t appreciated. There were no smiles, no one checked on us during the meal, and overall the service felt indifferent. I went to the restroom with my daughter, which is located upstairs and not properly covered from the rain. To make matters worse, there was no hand wash available, which is the basic minimum. We ordered snacks that took around 20–25 minutes to arrive, while we noticed other tables being served more quickly. The wait for our main courses was another 15–20 minutes. By the time we got our food, some guests had already finished their dessert and left. That said, the location is truly beautiful, it is just opposite the sea and the decor is lovely. The food was also delicious and beautifully presented. We enjoyed every bite, and i loved the virgin colada. Overall, while the setting and food were great, I’m not sure I’d recommend the place. It's hard to enjoy a meal when you feel like the odd one out simply for...
Read moreMy experience with this restaurant has been split in 3 different days: Day 1: since on the internet it says “we don’t accept reservations”, I directly went there but they didn’t accept customers with no reservation. So I kindly ask to book a table for the next day and they took the reservation. Day 2: I called the restaurant to kindly ask to anticipate the table, but they told me that they would be closed that day because of some troubles (note: If I wouldn’t have called I wouldn’t have known that the restaurant would have been closed). So I asked to the speaker to postpone my reservation for the next day again (that would have been Day 3) and they just said it was ok and nothing more. Day 3: I finally went at the restaurant, where I thought a table at my name was waiting for me. The truth was that there was no table reserved at my name and they also “forgot” to tell me at the phone that on that specific day they were only serving a specific menu (60€ per person).
I do not recommend it for sure. The restaurant staff was very unprepared and quite unkind. Apparently they were not showing any guilt neither when I highlighted that they didn’t talk about the specific menu by phone. There are many other better restaurants around much...
Read moreI had a great experience at this restaurant, especially when it came to the seafood—everything was fresh and flavorful. The grilled marlin was perfectly done, and the virgin piña colada was the highlight of my day. The service was mostly great, and the atmosphere was calm and not too hot, with a beautiful view of the beach.
The place is also very aesthetic, ideal for taking nice photos. One charming touch was the koi fish basin and the little waterfall—such a peaceful and eye-catching feature that added to the relaxing vibe.
However, there were a couple of downsides. Parking space is quite limited, and the toilet is located upstairs at the very back with steep, narrow stairs—not very convenient and a bit risky. Also, there was no water in the bathroom to wash hands.
One waitress was unfortunately a bit moody—she didn’t speak to us, didn’t ask before taking or placing things on the table, which felt unprofessional.
That said, the food was truly 10/10, and I’d still highly recommend this spot for the food, ambiance, and unique...
