Café De Grand Baie Plage — Restaurant in Isle Mauritius

OVERCHARGED US, WE REFUSED TO PAY, AVOID !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am pretty disappointed with the owner here. We attended the first day, and had something to eat and drink, and were really impressed.

We attended the second day, and suddenly things changed. We were charged extra for some drinks (not a lot, 200 MUR, but it is the principal).

View is great but ownership poor, the other staff are not good. Seems like the owner may need to learn how to treat customers.

Anyway, we came and had lobster, etc....bill came to 6000 + mur....they overcharged on the lobster and added in extra for some drinks. We made issues about this and stated we will not pay the extra 200 mur.

Owner started playing a game by mentioning that my wife was being abusive, which was not true, and as a GP, and my wife, an accountant, we definitively know what is right and wrong.

As we refused to pay the extra 200 mur, the owner decided to call the police. He kept stating that my wife was being abusive and mentioned that cctv would prove it....unlikely the CCTV works, and I was happy to see the footage.

200 mur is not a lot of money, but it is the principal and I have seen similar behaviours at other places, which is essentially, making false allegations so that the full amount is paid.

The manager stated that he could not deduct the amount from the bill from the system, which was a lie.

The police attended and they started talking in their own language, and the police advised either we could go to the station to file a report, or pay the extra....I was on a romantic holiday with my wife, so not going to waste time going to the station.

Regardless, avoid. You have been warned!!!!! Do not waste your...

Stumbled on cafe de Grand Baie plage a couple of nights ago and can honestly say what a find! And what a great night we had.. the food we all ate (party of 4) was excellent! Appetiser was Garlic bread and chilli dip (hot chilli dip was amazing!! ) 2 of us Had the curry which was fantastic and they spiced it up for me, 3rd had the local fish also very good and 4th Had the steak which was also excellent, really great well cooked food.. Staff were great (personal mention for Sandeep lovely guy) live entertainment of 2 guys on guitar was perfect. Not the cheapest but was really good value for money. We even popped back the night after for a drink and were given complimentary food.. Well worth a visit and the beach front position...

My wife's fish was overcooked and the garlic butter sauce was tasteless.

My smoked marlin pasta was filled with green, yellow and red peppers (not mentioned on the menu) that I do not eat.

After removing a while plate of those, there was hardly any marlin taste in the spaghetti pasta except a few hard chunks of marlin every now and then. Pasta sauce was also tasteless - just a LOT of garlic. I have had plenty of smoked marlin on the island and it was always soft and very tasteful. This was like marlin "jerky" / biltong in the pasta.

An extremely disappointing experience.

I will NOT be back to this restaurant again and we come very often...
