Barbanegra Bacalar — Restaurant in Bacalar

This is the fourth time that we have been here and 3 of the 4 times the service has been super slow but we have overlooked it due to our love of the tacos. However, last night was ridiculous. Firstly, we arrived to find that they didn’t have our booking even though we had been liaising with them all day on Instagram but they managed to find a table for us. Once seated, our order of water arrived fairly quickly but we were then left to our own devices and had to constantly try and get a waiter’s attention to order more drinks and our food, often by standing up and walking over to waiters who had ignored our calls. Annoyingly, a large group who were seated after us managed to get their order in first and were able to eat their food, pay their bill and leave before we had even received our tacos. All in all, we waited 2 hours to get our food and were very close to just walking out 😫 Once we received our guacamole, it arrived with no plates or chips and we had to ask 3 times over the course of 20 minutes to receive both of those things. Many tables who had arrived and ordered after us received their food before us which was extremely frustrating. I was looking forward to visiting after all the good reviews. Sadly, I was disappointed. Poor service: we were two people, ordered an appetizer and two orders of tacos. We got after a decent wait the appetizer and one taco order, and we were told the other tacos were coming. Had to ask for cutlery for the appetizer, and napkins. The menu said tacos came with grilled onions and baby potatoes. Did not get them. After we had eaten the appetizer and the first dish (fish tacos), we had to ask when was the other taco order coming. We got the tacos, sans side dish. I asked about it, and said we had not received them for the previous order. No apology, but they did bring us only one side of baby potatoes, (no onions). These were the octopus tacos. They were not bad, but they were mostly avocado, not so much octopus. The best things were the freshly made tortillas and the Barbanegra cocktail. Ambiance was nice, although music was a bit loud for my taste. You can get equally tasty cocktails and hand made tortillas plus better service and food experience in other restaurants in town though. Just left a truly mediocre & confusing experience … Food, Drink & Ambience were excellent without question … However the food was served in an unacceptable staggered order … We were 3 couples, One partner of each couple received their order, The balance was served after the 1st partner was finished with their meal … An order of guacamole never came, yet was included on the final bill, as well an entree discussed before ordering but was not ordered was on the bill … We chose not to leave a tip of any amount … It is a shame that the experience was so mixed because as I said the food, drink, & ambience were excellent … I would have given...
