The location on the malecon cannot be beat. The drink menu is good. The plates are a little pricey but for the location that's a given. I ordered the mixed seafood rice dish and it just seemed off, there was a permeating taste that wasn't right. Not until I tasted the mussel did I realize what it was. It was rotten and I spat it out immediately. It was so rancid a fly came out and landed on it. It's winter and it's at night, there were no flies....until that dish arrived. I told the manager, he brought the dish to the cook who verified it had gone bad and the manager was aplogetic and informed me that they wouldn't charge us for that plate and that a desert would be offered free of charge. Mistakes are made and that was a fair gesture. My wife and I both heard him say this and we both speak fluent Spanish. Of course when the bill came, there was the charge for the plate, minus 15% for thebad dish. We talked with the manager about this and he said that because I had eaten part of the meal, it was only fair that I pay the majority. No matter how much we pressed him on what he had said previously, he stuck with the new position. I said what if I get sick from what I've already consumed and he said that he'd give me a pill tomorrow. I run and own a business in Mexico and when we make a mistake, we take full responsibility. This answer and the switch from not charging to charging is just bad business, period. There are many great eating establishments in La Paz to choose from and this isn't one. My wife's plate wasn't that great either to be honest, but at least she won't get...
Read moreBetter than Bestia. That’s how I’d describe the new CasaMarte. Same cool ambiance—it’s a beautiful, old Spanish colonial building with modern art, macrame lanterns, and seating around the courtyard and porches, as well as inside. The fish tacos and frito misto we ordered tasted more like American-Mexican, but maybe it’s just what we ordered. Frito misto shrimp and calamari were excellent, but the giant batter-dipped potatoes on the bottom were soft in the middle, so not my style of fries. The complimentary chips, served with chunky red and a green salsa, were a highlight. Cocktails were crafty and good, but too sweet for our taste. $50 USD for two cocktails, a small bottle of water, two tacos and an entree, so not cheap, but you are on the Malecon. They have the coolest check presenter I’ve...
Read morePicked this restaurant purely by chance. Friend and I ordered Chips and salsa to start. The salsa was served in really tiny cups. Every time you went in for a scoop, the salsa would spill onto the table and you'd hardly get any on your chip. Wish they would give a small bowl of salsa instead. Waiters and staff didn't speak much English but we were able to get by without too much issue. Friend and I both ordered Parpadelle Camaron, Shrimp pasta. Fantastic dish. Pasta and shrimp were cooked perfectly. I've never had a lemon sauce that tasted so good. Most places are very sour and bitter but this lemon sauce was well balanced. I would go back just for this dish. Only real gripe is the servers could have been a bit more attentive. All in all, great place to...
