Unfortunately, my stay at Malecón 1680 was a complete disappointment. On paper, the property looks fantastic—great location right on the malecón, across from the beach, stylish travertine finishes, and rooftop photos that suggest lounge beds and maybe even a hot tub or pool. In reality, it was nothing but a farce.
La Paz is supposed to be a quiet, laid-back town, but staying here is the exact opposite. The hotel is practically glued to the loudest nightclub in the area, along with other noisy venues nearby. On Saturday night, the reggaeton was so deafening my bed was literally vibrating from the bass. Sleep was impossible. And it wasn’t just one night—every night there was music blasting into the early hours, with drunk people shouting outside. There is zero soundproofing.
To make matters worse, this isn’t really a hotel at all. There’s no concierge, no room service, nothing resembling hospitality. The rooftop? Misleading marketing. No hot tub, no pool—just photos that make it look far better than it is. The beach across the street isn’t the type of beach you want to lounge at. There are no water activities nearby the hotel at all.
Inside the room, I found hairs from previous guests in the bed and bathroom. The shower was miserable, with such weak water pressure that actually getting clean was nearly impossible. For the price I paid, this felt like a complete scam.
And don’t even bother booking transportation or tours through them—it’s absurdly overpriced and poorly executed. The Espiritu Santo tour they sent us on was Spanish-only, even though they knew we didn’t speak Spanish. The snorkeling spot they took us to had no fish, and when it came time to swim with the sea lions, they just skipped it, claiming the water was too rough—even though three other groups were already out there doing it.
To top it all off, there’s no confirmation, no receipt, no professionalism whatsoever when booking. Malecón 1680 didn’t just fail to meet expectations—it actively ruined my...

We overnighted here before boarding a cruise ship. Easy to reach via taxi from the airport (affordable).
Location COULD. NOT. BE. BETTER.
Great food, drinks, nightlife, sights, tourist options beach are all out your patio!
Communication with the hotel and digital concierge were great. Make sure you get the door code ahead of time!
It was an easy walk to the bus terminal to get us to the ship port.
Note: The hotel is above ground level with steep and narrow stairs. You want smaller, lighter bags. Not recommended if you have issues with stairs. Not sure if there is an elevator.
What I loved:
They had wall lockers with keys, so when we checked out at 11, we locked up our suitcases in the lockers, then we walked the Malecon (boardwalk) until it was time to board the bus.
Super easy, barely an inconvenience.
Loved: The view, the location!
Loved: The earplugs! Night life and cruisers can be loud. The earplugs were handy. Once we fell asleep, we stopped hearing the city life.
Loved: Nearby food,...
Read moreThis was 1 of 3 places we stayed during 2 weeks in BCS and ended up being our favorite. The hotel property seems recently updated and everything is modern, clean and functional. The shower and toilet are separated which is nice for a couple. The service was super friendly and location was the best part to be in the heart of the Mericon, with a balcony that overlooks all of the constant action and free entertainment. Also you get a great view of the sunset every day from the balcony or up on the roof.
Also be aware that being in the heart of the Mericon comes with some noise until late at night. The cement walls provides some sound insulation, but make sure to wear the provided earplugs, and maybe drink a tequila nightcap to be able to sleep well. The beds are comfortable.
Wifi worked well enough for us to both work remotely for several days and take Zoom calls, etc like normal...
