We live in La Paz and have visited Fuego y Lena a number of times and until today, it has been fantastic. The Greek salad is to die for! Last week we ordered a pesto pizza and had serrano ham added to it - amazing! So I was completely floored today when I ordered a pesto pizza, except this time, with pepperoni. A few minutes later the waiter returned to tell us the cook would not serve us pepperoni on our pizza. We didn't completely understand what was happening but just guessed that maybe they were out of pepperoni or something. The waiter then invited the cook to our table. He explained that he could not serve us pepperoni because it would "degrade" the pesto. Annoying, but ok, I can go with the flow... "How about serrano ham again?" No. "But I just had it that way a few days ago." Long uncomfortable silence... "How about any protein at all?" Longer, more uncomfortable silence. Exasperated, I ordered a regular pepperoni pizza (no pesto). When the pizza arrived to our table, I asked the waiter for a side of pesto. I watched him go over and discuss with the cook and when he returned, "No pesto for you!" I was looking around in disbelief, were they really refusing to serve me pesto! Am I hallucinating? Way to go losing a repeat customer and former raving fan...
Read moreWould be a fine pizza restaurant except it's slacking in several regards. First, it says it's open at 5 pm. On Google, but also written on the blackboard on their gate, but they didn't open until 6 pm on the Tuesday night (we got there at 5.50). That said, being an hour late to open and that, you'd expect tables would be clean but there was black dust on our table, and other guests nearby complained about the same issue. The actual pizzas were alright! After a second slice, the centers of both turned soggy but the flavor was good. Generally, all ingredients were heavily concentrated in the center, what probably caused the sogginess. Lastly, at the end we had leftovers. And to our surprise, they got packaged into a Styrofoam clamshel container! One, layering slices of pizza is never a great idea, but darn, with the image/price range/clientele this restaurant is trying to maintain, a cardboard box seems like would not be too much to expect. The lack of interest in environmentally friendly options given the oceanside desert setting is indeed...
Read moreDo not buy a take-away pizza there, it will be significantly smaller than when you order and eat in the restaurant. I am not happy any longer with this restaurant, we went there 4 times in the last 2 months. the quality went from surprisingly good to really bad. The first 2 times pizza was great, the 3th time the Capriccios was horrible, they put so much stuff on it that it was still rare. Bit size was always okay, we ordered always 2 large pizza for us and 1 kid. This time I ordered the same pizzas for take away, large size. So I paid the full price, 495 pesos, 2 large salami. But the size was significant smaller. Their large pizza is even smaller than a "normal" sized pizza in my country. how small can you go? How does a normal pizza look like if this is Large? see my images.
that's it, we...
