VELVET CAFE — Restaurant in Baja California

Cool, dark, eclectic, comfortable, intriguing, lounge type atmosphere... BUT, with a bit of swagger, rather interesting vibe. I came too late to eat this time, but the menu looks very tasty and I will be back soon as I am craving the fries...simple maybe, but the description of this comfort food combined with the atmosphere made it so much more appealing. Unfortunately, it's going to be on my mind all night... Thanks a lot velvet! I could easily see this being my new local spot. I enjoy places where the people are friendly, the food is most likely going to more than satisfying, the coffees are wonderful & where the atmosphere is inviting with a bit of edge. Just enough European cafe feel that I find rare these days, but that are my favorite types of places to spend time. Whether to meet new people, meet a group of friends, or just hang out and enjoy good food and coffee, maybe mingle with other locals, Velvet seems to cater to all. I like the vibe...I appreciate the "9:15" for its uniqueness, but I don't like the actual time as I tend to be a late person. I will need to work on that aspect once I spend more time there for sure... Hang out at Velvet...you just might like it! Great job with what you've done. Jesus and his wife are the perfect hosts at this warm and cozy cafe and bistro retreat in the hearty of Tijuana's Gabilondo / Cacho area just West of R1 and S. of Columbia. Sitting here with an oversized glass cup of steaming coffee and oven fresh giant chocolate cookie on a rainy, damp and chilly Easter Saturday afternoon surrounded by oodles of atmosphere, with antiques, drapes and framed pictures everywhere, it is like being transported back to England, a charming cottage perhaps, or the pretty upholstered living quarters of a castle even. An eclectic mix of feel good music playing in the background, one can choose between the front room parlor, or the kitchen room watching all the delights being made, or take a table in the walled indoor garden, all ensconced in soft and magical lighting. Este lugar está muy lindo para visitar, tiene pros y contras, me gustaría que vayan con expectativas realistas. Hablemos de lo bueno primero… El lugar es muy hermoso. Siempre se siente como navidad y específicamente en navidad es aún más lindo, tienen unos cuadros súper raros y te entretienen bastante la vista, muy romántico el ambiente y uno que otro spot para fotos lindo… La variedad en el menú es muy muy extensa, son muchísimas opciones de bebidas y siempre hay un sabor nuevo… es como si tomaras todos los posibles postres navideños y los metieras aquí… también tienen comida y snacks variados… Sus postres son muy ricos, muy variados y jamás quedas mal con una rebanada de cualquiera de sus pasteles si la llevas como detalle a alguien… Sus cafés igual muy variados, personalmente yo no soy la fan número 1 porque no aprecio tanto el sabor dulce y aquí si son sabores creativos y generalmente dulces…si te gusta experimentar entre pumpkin, peppermint, caramel o velvet te va a encantar… Sus porciones son muy muy grandes… se ponen muy espléndidos con el tamaño de las cosas, tazas enormes y platos enormes también. Considero que para la zona y para la porción es un lugar muy económico.

En cuanto a los contras no tiene estacionamiento, hay que buscar en la calle, generalmente si se encuentra entre semana, solo los viernes es más complicado. No hay sala de espera, si llegas y hay mesa ya la hiciste, si no, la fila es afuera… Ha sido así por años, ellos tienen un estilo muy rústico, a pesar de su éxito casi no se han expandido, no hay más sucursales, estaría padre que invirtieran en beepers…(son los sensores que te llevas contigo y suenan cuando tu mesa está lista)

Aunque su personal es muy amable si se les nota el estrés cuando se satura… intenten ser clientes considerados y amables también
