There’s an old German saying that love goes through the stomach — and at Ceviches La Chingada on Holbox Island, that sentiment comes vividly to life. Every dish served here, especially the signature ceviche, feels like a declaration of affection — sincere, intimate, and unforgettable.
Tucked away in a quiet courtyard lush with greenery, this tiny, family-run eatery offers just a handful of tables. The setting is simple yet full of charm, designed with the kind of understated care that immediately makes guests feel at home. In the open kitchen — a feature that has become a hallmark of fine dining around the world — every detail of the preparation unfolds in plain view.
But unlike the bustling brigades of chefs and sous-chefs found in upscale restaurants, here there is only one person: the owner. She alone cooks, serves, and hosts. And while her food is remarkable, it is her presence as a hostess that defines the experience. Her warmth and quiet confidence fill the space, turning a meal into something more personal — an act of hospitality in its purest form.
Each plate carries the imprint of her devotion: the freshness of the ingredients, the balance of flavors, the elegance in simplicity. What lingers is not only the taste but also the unmistakable sense of pride and love that she pours into her craft.
Dining at Ceviches La Chingada isn’t just about eating well; it’s about being reminded that food, at its best, is a conversation between...
Read moreThe food here is great (especially the ceviche and the spicy guacamole), but it is not worth visiting for the bad mood you will be in when you leave the restaurant due to the terrible customer service. We first came here for breakfast- we weren’t that hungry and were waiting for the atm to be restocked for cash (we were unaware at the time the restaurant took card)- so decided to share a plate of Chilaquiles. When the food arrived and I asked for a second set of cutlery, the owner was grumpy and reluctant to provide us with it, saying she didn’t like that we were sharing a dish because we should have been spending more money. This is the despite the fact that the restaurant was completely empty at the time.
Wanting to give them the benefit of the doubt and try the ceviche, we returned for lunch. We got a different server but her attitude and service was...
Read moreFollowing the good recommendations I had dinner here. I had the fish tacos and the fish ceviche, a guacamole. To start with the good things- the guacamole was nothing special, tasted almost like nothing, but was eatable. The fish tacos were soggy and fell apart but were quite big. They tasted like nothing as well, no salt, no lime juice no salsa. The highly recommended fish ceviche was the worst I had in Mexico. First it was so super sour that I couldn't almost eat it, but after the second bite I realized that it was even so super hot, that apart from hot and sour there was no taste at all. I left almost the whole plate untouched. Not eatable! Besides, the waitress wasn't very gentle from the beginning- it took her almost 15 min to make a lemonade. All in all- no recommendation for this food! There are much better...
