Kantina Los tacos de Humo — Restaurant in Isla Mujeres

After my first meal here, and after eating at several other restaurants on the island, I returned twice more to Kantina Los Tacos de Humo. At different times, I enjoyed the traditional guacamole and the chef's special guacamole (with chiles and mango). The guacamole had the perfect chunky texture with plenty of tomato, onion and cilantro. And it was perfectly seasoned. It is a large portion, perfect for sharing. The chips are clearly homemade and were perfectly crispy and light. The fish tacos truly deserve to be called the best of the island. The fish is perfectly fried - light and crispy. The portions of fish are substantial and clearly fresh. The tortillas and slaw are tasty and the salsa was delicious as well. I had two different types of margarita - traditional and tamarindo. The traditional was perfectly tart and sweet. The tamarindo margarita was like a tamarindo agua fresca with alcohol. Since that is my favorite agua fresca, I was very happy. But they have other fruit flavored margaritas if you want something more typical like strawberry. My service was excellent all three times. And I really enjoyed the personal attention from the owner who stopped by to make sure my table was happy. The restaurant itself is a sweet little place with no tourist traps (like swings or patios) - just incredible food! The prices were comparable to other Isla Mujeres...

We visited Isla Mujeres for spring break 2025, the island was very busy the day we arrived, almost chaotic. While buzzing around the island in our golf cart we set out to find someplace to have lunch. We searched up and down the blocks for a place that had parking and bam! there this place was. The man standing in the doorway (maybe the owner?) Waved us in and sat us promptly. Offering ice cold water and beverages. Our family of 5 viewd the menu and ordered different items. Some loaded nachos, fish tacos and tacos locos. The portions did not disappoint! And everything was absolutely incredible! The fish was fresh and cooked perfectly, the flavors in the beef tacos was superb. We barely could finish our plates, only to be surprised by 3 hot fresh cinnamon glazed donuts! What a tasty treat! Highly reccomend this place! It was quiet and cool inside, and the service...

So good! Absolutely enormous tacos literally the biggest I’ve ever seen in my life (the fish taco was literally an entire fillet of fish) and soooo filling. Couldn’t even finish 3! We recommend the carnitas, pescado del día y los locos are the best!

Pro tip - if you go at happy hour (3 tacos & 1 margarita for 300 pesos) MAKE SURE YOU SPECIFY that you want that deal! The margarita that comes with the happy hour is much smaller, we got stung a bit with the bill at the end as we didn’t realise or specify that what we wanted was the happy hour deal and were brought our food plus regular sized (enormous) margaritas. But that was our fault :)

The complimentary 2 churros donuts at the end were also so great and such a nice touch. Muchas gracias!
