Edit! 1 Star visit after 5 star 2 days ago. Went back like many things in life only good first time. I'll say this.... Any negative review in here is replied to by an owner often chastising customers for not speaking up. Well we did... Twice to 2 different staff. So you had your chance...2 of them and didn't care.
Wife had chicken sandwich it was red and pink in center and she said tasted like a fishy taste. Ate only a few bites. I had burger and it wasn't like last time was complete mess falling apart. Onions not good. Upgraded from chips to fries. Uggh. Cold and old. They were hard and not fresh. One girl maybe a manager saw our plates especially my wife 's. And how she commented it must be the big portions right? And my wife shook her head and said no it's not good. No comment from her. Then bartender/waiter saw our full plates especially my wife's and asked are we done we said yes it's not good and fries are old. He brought the bill, no comment, no effort to reduce the very large 720 pesos bill that had zero alcohol on it. Bottled water and coke. That's alot of money for garbage. Didn't appreciate the lack of any effort towards what we had and the bill. Wife feels sick. I'm hungry. What a waste. I've never changed a review but Google doesn't allow a secondary review. So bottom line is if you're willing to flip a coin you'll get a excellent experience or you'll leave sick feeling and waste money. I can't remember a polar opposite experience like this and I have to lower rating. We own a small food business and I would never allow customers to say they really didn't feel good and had a bad experience with cold fries etc and just hand them the bill. Apologies now would be meaningless we are gone and we will never come back. First visit below I'll leave it unchanged as it was a very different visit.
Cozy little place limited room but we got lucky. We had nibbles earlier so wife and I split a burger with cheddar cheese with chips and Home made ketchup. Waiter was kind had them split it on 2 platters both with chips rather than just giving us a extra plate for sharing. Really juicy, well cooked, it was a joy. The legend was true it's fantastic. Highly recommend. Bartender's/servers worked so very hard. Run don't walk. Ps.... My photos include an empty platter as I kept eating it so fast that I forgot to take...
Read moreWhen you come to an island in the Caribbean, you come for the beach, the warm, and maybe the seafood. What if I told you that you should come to have a burger at Isla Burger? You'd think I was crazy. Let me tell you... I am not crazy. I am a foodie and I had the best burger I have had in at least 6 months here on this little island.
We do our research before we go out and eat. This evening Jenny picked out the spot. I immediately thought "burgers?!, really?!, shouldn't we be eating another octopus on a rock or a fish taco since we are literally on the water?" Let me drop a spoiler here. This was the best food I have had on the island across multiple years and multiple trips.
Arriving we were greeted and offered street level seating, rooftop, or air conditioned balcony. We opted for the A/C as we had achieved our sun quotient for the day.
Bert greeted us with the warmth that you would expect from a friend. The owner swung by and made sure we were comfortable as well. Everyone was great, but Bert made the evening fun!
Our party of four ordered a variety of burgers. We had parmesan truffle fries as an opener and house made chips as sides. All of it was incredible. The sauces were absolutely amazing. They have the best house made ketchup I've ever had.
I sprung a drink request on Bert and he came up with shining examples. I wanted a mezcal old fashioned. Bert offered an amazing drink for me and an alternative blend of mezcal and a barrel aged tequila for Jenny. We were blown away by the flavors and ingenuity we found on the streets of Isla Mujeres.
It could be said that if you want a great burger, you should go straight to Colorado or the stockyards in Fort Worth. I would tell you to take a quick flight out to a little Caribbean island off the coast of Cancun. If you like whiskey, but want to remember that you are in Mexico, be sure to ask for the "Rob-Fashioned". You...
Read moreIf you are needing a break from tacos and enchiladas, this stop is a must. After awhile we needed a little taste of comfort food and found it at Isla Burger.
The meat is sourced directly and comes whole as a brisket and ribeye and ground in house. The sauces are house made as well with a very unique ketchup. The pickles… yah, house made…
We had a few different burgers and loved them all. You of course can’t go wrong with the classic. The bacon - oh yah - house as well. The barbecue burger has a great smokey sauce and cole slaw. I didn’t ask about house made, but it seems highly likely based on the flavors. The burger with the guacamole and egg was a hit too. We cut our various burgers in quarters and had a great sampling of all of them to pass around to the group.
They have a nice bar area downstairs as well. We ordered some margaritas at our table and they were great with our meals.
The sign out front makes them easy to find from a few blocks down the road. One thing that we really liked is that they aren’t out hustling you to come in like on Hidalgo and some of the others. The food speaks for itself, they don’t need to lure you in.
We had some GREAT Mexican food on this trip, but it was also really nice to have an outstanding burger to add to the...
