This place has become my home on the island. I have now stayed here 3 times in 2018.
I made the mistake of initially making my reservation for last week with Maria del mar. Bad idea. I plan to leave then a review separately from this one. I left faster than I checked in.
I immediately went to Playa Arena hoping they had a room. I was greeted by Damian at the front desk. I asked if they had a room available. Immediately he told me that he remembered me from my stay there in May and he even remembered the room I was in and pointed to it. I remembered him and his friendliness also. Every time he saw me he greeted me by name.
I checked into the deluxe room. It's beach front with a sun bed, chairs for sitting on the patio, and a great view. Literally a 30 second walk to a beach chair. The room was nice, not luxurious, but filled with amenities. It has a flat screen tv, cold air conditioning, hot shower, bath tub, digital safe, hair dryer, coffee maker, filtered water, refrigerator with freezer, king bed with plenty of pillows, ceiling fan and more.
The restaurant has good food, cold drinks of many varieties, and satellite radio. It is a 20 second walk from the room. I could not hear the noise or music while in the room.
Then there's the Playa Norte beach. It's amazing. The sand is white and soft. The water is a clear beautiful teal. Chairs and umbrellas are reserved for hotel guests.
Santiago is the gentleman who watches the beach chairs and area. He is such a great person. He doesn't only earth the beach area to enforce hotel guest exclusivity at the chairs and make sure the vendors don't try to oversell their goods. He promptly comes to make sure you have a table and umbrella. He also will bring your orders of drinks or food if it is ready and the servers are busy. He doesn't really speak English but my friend who visited me helped translate. If you don't speak Spanish, it'll be a little difficult to understand his ethics.
All said, I'll be back to this beautiful little hotel again and will look forward to seeing Damian, Santiago, the rest of the great staff and...
Read moreWe went there at the beginning of June 2019. This was our second time to visit there. The cost for 2 chairs and umbrella was 500 pesos and that cost went towards our food/beverages. I read on travel forum that they would add a 15% gratuity, but they didn’t. You can settle the payment when you leave. Free wifi was available. You can just ask for the password at the restaurant. You cannot borrow free towels anymore. (They used to rend it for free to their beach club guests. ) They have two rain showers in front of a bathroom. Female bathroom had three toilets, out of which one was not working when I was there. There was a bench in the back of the bathroom and I was able to change my clothes there. The food and drinks were quite nice. (We didn’t drink alcohol though.) We had Lemonade 35 peso Orange juice 30 peso Fuzzy mango 70 peso Orange juice again 30 peso Chicken Fafita 170 peso Quesadilla Arrachera 190 peso Total: 525 peso So we paid 620 peso including tip. Everything was great, especially quesadilla arrachera. Beef was juicy and tasty and they used lots of cheese! So far we have tried 3 different beach clubs/restaurants at Playa Norte, and I like Tuturreque the best, in terms of facility and the quality of food and drinks. Tell you the truth, I prefer the water quality /ocean/view in front of Tarzan, but you can just walk 20 to 30 meters to the right to go there. Highly...
Read moreI can't say enough good about this place or the people who work here. We have stayed here 3 years in a row. The rooms are clean. The location perfect. The people friendly and helpful.
If you are expecting a typical American fancy perfection experience, stay in Cancun at an all inclusive. The water pressure isn't the strongest, but its effective; the internet is spotty, but good; the drawers don't slide perfectly, but they work and are well loved. For me, its what I love about it!
I don't want an all inclusive. I want to venture out and experience the island and her people as much as possible.
Any issues we may have had were quickly solved. Jesus, on the evening shift, is amazing. The beautiful senorita (Annette, I believe) who was here during the morning hours was so welcoming. Valentine, Alejandro, and the beach/bar guys are so helpful and kind when serving food and drinks and setting up our chairs and towels.
Throw a Firestick in your luggage for watching movies in the evening.
I can't imagine staying anywhere else. Thank you Playa Arena for always providing a great stay! See you...
