Exceptional. Service was thoughtful and professional, without being overbearing in the slightest. The timing of the food and wine, as well as the temperatures and portion size, were perfect. A smartly retroffited building of the area, exposing nature by showcasing the roots and branches of the enormous tree that lurches over the neighborhood, behind glass floors and ceilings.
My date and I shared the fresh bread and grilled romaine salad to start with some prosecco. The bread was so fresh out of the oven it felt as though you were walking by a bakery on your way to work. Served with deeply smokey and charred eggplant, fresh cheese, and savoury foie it paired excellently with our bubbles. The wood fired romaine was the best version of a caesar I have ever had. The gentleman taking care of our wine split our pours in halfs with the bottle on the side of the table over ice to ensure every sip was cool & crisp- even though we weren't in for the whole bottle.
Next was the calamar stuffed with risotto and plated with rich mole. Unbelievable. And paired very well with the pinot noir from California.
Finally we split the coffee crusted New York striploin steak, medium rare with cauliflower puree. The thickest meat was left unsliced to further rest, while the thinner edge was sliced for presentation and enjoyment. Every bite was cooked to a 10/10. The coffee crust was subtle, and played with the sweet vegetables that came plated with the dish. We skipped dessert much to my regret, but did have a lovely raicilla to close out the night with.
The flavours of Raíces are natural and rustic but modern in style, truly embodying the spirit of the building. For the two of us, this was the perfect order combination in flavour and portion size.
Thank you Carla and team for a wonderful evening. We did not mention we came in for our 5 year wedding anniversary, nor did we need to for a 5 star experience. Raíces is a must if you are in PV and are looking for an unpretentious fine...
Read moreThis is the best meal I've had in a long time. Not just in Puerto Vallarta, but anywhere. Came here the other night (02/05/24), with a very hungry group of men. Literally everything was perfect. We ended up just sharing everything family style because none of us could land on just one item. We started with the Wood fired bread, Spinach Croquettes, and Grilled Sweetbread. The croquettes were perfectly toasted, had a nice crispy quality, and filled with a delicious interior. The sweetbread was tender and perfectly seasoned with rosemary (the use a lot of rosemary here). The bread had a Pate de Foie dip that was so good I put it on everything except the bread.
For dinner we shared Ravioli filled with short rib, Squid/stuffed with risotto, and the cod Catch of the day. All of which look and taste even better the pictures would lead you to believe.
The desserts were great too. Attaching photos.
The ambiance is so cool. It's converted old house with roots under the floor (highlighted with tampered glass). The music is present but not too loud; I didn't have any problem hearing my friends.
Chef Gonzales (the owner) came out and greeted us at some point, I'm sure he could tell how much fun we we're having. Our waitress Juri couldn't have been more helpful. She was so attentive and clearly knew all the ingredients in everything, able to recommend dishes and wine without missing a beat.
We somehow got out of there with 4 entrees, 3 apps and 2 desserts, along with two nice bottles of wine for $90 (USD) a piece, so the price was right.
If you take a gander into the kitchen you'll see plenty of large clean counters and dedicated stoves/grills for the charcoal and flat iron. I was so impressed with the meal that I came back the next day! Equally as amazing on day two (and I never go to the same place twice, so this...
Read moreWe actually walked into Raices by accident (we had a reservation at the restaurant next door!) We were greeted by a warm and friendly hostess who was happy to give us a garden table when we requested it. Our waiter Alejandro was just as warm and friendly and made us feel immediately welcome. We soon realized we were at the wrong restaurant when we looked at the menu. While the menu looked delicious, we wanted to respect our standing reservation next door. However, when we went next door we noticed immediately that the welcome was not as warm and the table was right near the door. They could not sit us in the garden (which was fine) but we also found the hostess to be unfriendly and not as gracious and welcoming as next door. Without hesitation, we promptly returned to Raices which was magical. They have a lovely garden with lights and flowers and the menu is fantastic. We enjoyed every one of our dishes and Alejandro was a wonderful waiter- engaging, attentive and he recommended some great dishes. We highly recommend this restaurant for its magical ambiance, delectable cuisine, vibey music and warm staff. The excellent service was first class. We will...
