Let me first preface this review by saying the service from Sera / Sarah (I apologize for not knowing how to spell her name) was great. She was very kind and attentive and spoke English which was very helpful. The following however will revolve around the food itself which is where it all goes wrong at Atlantis.
Service begins with a warmed tuna salsa I believe it was that was quite tasty however the chips that it was served with equated to what I can only compare the texture to eating raw pasta noodles. The chips were extremely hard and kind of ruined the experience of the salsa which as I mentioned was quite good.
After the starter our orders arrived (we got the recommended dishes) being the Atlantis Fish Fillet, Kids chicken strips with fries, shrimp tacos, and coconut shrimp. We also ordered another starter that I believe was simply called rolls?
The rolls were seafood in a deep fried skin. These were extremely overcooked and lacked depth to the flavor other than basically oil and the sauce they were served on.
The Atlantis Fish Fillet was overall good and we would have rated it around 3/5 however as my wife was eating it she discovered a hair in the food and promptly sent it back to the kitchen. This was removed from our bill and we were offered an apology from our server. Because of the hair the rating for this dish goes down.
The coconut shrimp were huge and breaded heavily however by being breaded so heavily they were heavy with residual oil and the flavor was basically oil and the habenero mango sauce it came with. The dish came with 10 giant shrimp and we could only finish 3 before feeling very unhealthy and a little ill from so much oil. The shrimp were served on garlic mashed potatoes which were quite tasty however I've never been served potatoes with coconut shrimp so it was a bit of an odd pairing when rice would have been a better choice. The vegetables that came with this dish were also quite tasty.
The kids chicken strips and fries were sub par at best and I actually took them away from my daughter for the sake of her health. The chicken appeared to have been beaten down to a paper thin sheet and heavily breaded and deep fried so there was 0 chicken taste and nothing left but oil and breading which I wasn't about to let her eat for dinner. The fries were average and we're basically freezer fries from a supermarket deep fried with no real flavor.
The shrimp tacos were average but the heavy breading on the shrimp overpowered the flavouring and again tarnished the experience with oil flavor and a heavy unhealthy taste.
The atmosphere was average. The music was odd and played rick roll among other odd choices very similar. The chairs were very comfortable and the space was clean and bright.
Overall I can't understand for the life of me how this establishment has a perfect 5.0 rating as I cannot in good conscience recommend it to anyone when there are far better options everywhere...
Read moreWow! I am so glad we wandered away from the Malecón and found this gem. I had an amazing experience here. Don’t be alarmed that it isn’t busy, it is a new restaurant and just hasn’t caught on yet! I had a delicious skirt steak, perfectly cooked and seasoned, with mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables. My friends had seafood dishes and everything was fresh and amazing. Honestly this was just as good as some of the higher-end restaurants I’ve been to in the states. But then… the drinks!! 🤩 The prices are great and the margaritas are freaking delicious, very fresh. The bartender has skills. We will be back the next time we are...
Read moreWonderful new place in 5 de Diciembre. The restaurant is a covered open air interior courtyard with comfortable and spacious seating The friendly, attentive, and helpful waitstaff helped us navigate the menu. The food is so fresh and cooked to perfection. Immediately, the waiter brought out a yummy complementary marlin dip. We ordered calamari for appetizer. For entree, I ordered the lemon salmon and hubby had the Mediterranean fish. The portions were plentiful. We finished our meal with a complimentary glass of tequila. I highly recommend giving this new...
