We ended up here for dinner on a whim.
ATMOSPHERE: Contemporary decor, floor to ceiling glass front, small bar, indoor & outdoor seats, R&B background music. They weren't particularly busy on a Sunday night.
MENU: Mixed cuisine of apps, ceviches, salads, seafood, meats, burgers, sandwiches, pastas, desserts.
BEVERAGE: Mojito Wow, I wish I could get a big and refreshing glass of this in the US for $4!? One of the best I've had.
FOOD: Tropico I would've loved this salad even more had it come with either green leaf or even romaine lettuce rather than a paltry spring mix. The filet of grilled ahi was the star of the show, adding not only protein but good saltiness to the dish.
Maria Sabina Cheese and mushrooms are two of my many vices. A small cast iron pan of the stuff came out hot but quickly coagulated. Some commented that it was too salty but I thought it was fine. We all agreed that the slightly toasted yet stale bread slices were its biggest downfall.
Aros Marineros AKA calamari. The mix of rings and tentacles were thickly breaded and quite plentiful for an app. The blackberry aioli was creamy and not sweet, a very nice alternative to traditional cocktail sauce.
Churrasco De Salmon Hands-down the best dish of the night. The salmon was thick, moist, perfectly salted with crispy skin and topped with a buttery cream sauce. Roasted veggies of mushrooms, carrots, zucchini and corn on the cob cane to the side. Highly recommended.
Kraken I had a really good octopus at another PV restaurant so I had high hopes for this one. Unfortunately, it fell flat due to the lack of seasoning and chewy texture though it was charred nicely. It was a big portion for the minuscule price which was a whole small octopus minus the head. The fries that lined the cast iron pot were soaked in oil and naturally soggy. Pass.
SERVICE: We were greeted and seated immediately as the place was dead. Our male server was friendly and professional but he forgot about my second drink order. Food delivery was average.
OVERALL: Affordable but not enough of a wow factor for a return. The salmon & mojito are the saving graces from a...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Palmar, a seafood restaurant in Puerto Vallarta that truly stands out for its exceptional quality and reasonable prices. From the moment I stepped through the door, I was greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere that set the stage for a memorable dining experience.
The staff at Palmar were friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. They provided excellent recommendations, guiding me through the extensive selection of seafood dishes. Their passion for seafood was evident in their explanations of the different flavors and cooking techniques used.
Now, let's talk about the food. Palmar truly excels in delivering fresh and delicious seafood. Each dish was a masterpiece, showcasing the flavors of the ocean in the most delightful way. From the perfectly seared scallops to the tender lobster tail, every bite was a testament to the chef's expertise and dedication to quality.
What impressed me the most about Palmar, however, was the reasonable prices they offered. Despite the high quality of the ingredients and the meticulous preparation, the menu was surprisingly affordable. It's rare to find a seafood restaurant of this caliber that doesn't break the bank. Palmar allows seafood enthusiasts to indulge in their favorite dishes without worrying about the cost.
The ambiance of the restaurant added to the overall experience. Whether you choose to dine indoors or enjoy the ocean breeze on the outdoor terrace, Palmar provides a comfortable and inviting setting. The attention to detail in the decor and the soothing background music created a relaxing atmosphere that enhanced the enjoyment of the meal.
In conclusion, Palmar is undoubtedly one of the best seafood restaurants in Puerto Vallarta. With its exceptional quality, friendly service, and reasonable prices, it is a true gem for seafood lovers. Whether you're a local or a visitor, I highly recommend giving Palmar a try. Prepare to be impressed by their fresh seafood creations and leave with a satisfied...
Read moreNo more comfortable AC? Awful last three visits When people have to fan themselves and wipe their faces with napkins to keep from drippimg in their meal, the temp is unpleasant.
Used to be our favorite place Apparently new management as our four visits this year were big disappointments. Our favorite churros with cinnamon and ice cream are no longer signature as we took guests visiting us three times. They were out of ice cream once And out of bananas once substituting strawberries for the bananas. Taste difference with swap similar to adding celery in a dish to replace corn. The $50+ that night for after dinner treats ended up to go and later ended in the trash. So what is up with the new temperature setting for air conditioning ? Since September (three months stay here) Palmar was each time so hot people were wiping off sweat off their face and fanning themselves. Friends watch gave inside temp reading of 82 degrees and 83 degrees and we purposefully set far away from the non closing front door that for the entire visit about a foot and also far from kitchen. Sad to see a favorite place to go to the bottom of our list, even after three extra chances of complete failure visits
If you don't run the air conditioner adequately open the door the rest of the way and buy some damn fans.
Stopped by yesterday to walk in and check temperature and see if the bad bananas for our last day here.
Temperature was hot, people's faces were wet at table 1 and others were fanning themselves with a menu at table 2.
Hopefully new management will take over soon or current management will fix the door that doesn't close the entire way, turn the AC temperature to something at least moderately comfortable and do a better job with...
