South of the Burger — Local services in Jalisco

This is a beautifully done space with excellent service and a delish (and huge) burger.

The burger scene is getting strong in PV so here’s my top reasons you should go here (besides a tasty burger):

1. service: the staff were all very friendly, made sure we had what we needed, and balanced great service with not being too in-your-face and feeling over bearing. They did a great love balancing that effort.

2. craft beer selection: on point! One of my fave splurges is a good burger and a good craft beer. Yes and yes! That box is checked. ✅

3. ambiance: love the space. The bar area is beautiful and they have addition seating in a tall courtyard type area if you want something that feels a little more private. Really love the way they chose to build out the space.

As for the burger it was big AND delicious! I’m super picky about beef and they nailed it. The bun held up well while also being soft and tasty.

First we were a very large group, so I am taking that into consideration. I normally ask if they are dog friendly, but I forgot. So the burgers are massive! They look and smell amazing, the sauce's are really good, and the cheese is on point especially for Mexico. And the buns are really good, they don't break apart like normal ones in the area. The not so good part: They call them smash burgers, but they aren't they are just two thinner patties. But the worst part was how dry the patties were, they just crumbled. I couldn't finish eating the burger cause it was so dry. Given that they were slammed I am hoping this was just a one off thing. If you haven’t tried South of the Burger yet you really should! I think it’s one of the best burgers in Vallarta and I am undesirably fussy!!

It’s a perfect burger tbh! Two smashed patties cooked to perfection, caressed by usual fresh toppings on the best, toasted black sesame bun you’ve ever tasted. I like to accompany my burger with their chili cheese fries! What a huge portion you get, and oh so tasty and covered in nuclear hot chedder cheese. Just how they should be, and just how I like them!
