The sorbets taste like 100% pure fruits without artificial sweeteners! Definitely the perfect sorbets for the heat and if you enjoy the tropical fruits here. The place may be a bit ragged and chaotic but the sorbets make up for that. If you’d prefer a quieter environment, you can try their other branch in paseo de Montejo. The flavours change everyday and sometimes even during the same day but the available flavours are usually displayed on a board.

This was the best sorbet I tried. I tried the guayaba and coconut flavor and was very impressed. The sorbet was refreshing and flavorful without being overly sweet. Any fruit flavor is a must get here. I also tried the chocolate but it wasn't as good as the fruit ones. This place is a classic and family run for years and it's no wonder why. This shop is located directly across the cathedral in the city of Merida.

Some of the best sorbets in my life, I kid you not. We visited four times over three days (3x the main branch and 1x the branch on Montejo boulevard) and we tried nine different flavors. All were spot on. We tried the champola too (a scoop of sorbet thrown into a glass of milk; like shake but 'not shaked').

Coconut is incredibly authentic - you feel the notes of both coconut water, coconut milk and coconut flesh, it's very rich and smooth. Our favorite was tamarind - a perfect balance of sweetness and sourness. Tropical fruits are a must if you come from a country were they are not common - guava, guanabana, mamey, and zapote were all delicious. We were afraid that guanabana will be too sweet but actually it was as fresh as guava. Mamey was sweet and zapote even sweeter - but please don't complain about its sweetness if you don't know the fruit itself. Sapotes are incredibly sweet fruits! Next to the sweetness though, are taste notes that you can't experience in any other fruit on this planet. For this reason alone they're worth a try. "Crema morisca" is another revelation - a fruity-milky mix with a dash of rum and with chewy pieces of a fruity soft-toffee-texture candy in it.

Some reviews below say "not creamy enough" - another misconception. The name of the place is "sorbeteria", they serve sorbets, why would you expect gelato-like creaminess?

On top of everything, the place is atmospheric, with old school service (no one was rude upon our visits, everyone was smiling actually; for me the old timer vibe is a plus), and it has 100+ years of history, which further boosts the overall experience.

PS. I came back one more time about two months later while I was back in town to catch a flight! To try even more flavors, this time...

Terrible service, I mean horrendous. unfriendly staff, most likely how a Haciendas were run here in the past. If you want mediocre, discolored, over priced sorbet and bad service, this is your spot. When your the only game in the square your allowed to sell old dark junks of banana and ice as sorbet, they need some competition in this square so they up there game. Worst experience of my trip so far. Rude owner who barks orders to his employees. Wish I could give it negative stars, but on a good note the sorbet was cold and had lots of chunks of ice, can only hope they use filtered water to make this stuff or else it's Montezumas...

We wanted to try a few flavours, but you're not allowed (lol) as in no tasting whatsoever (being Italian I think this is absolutely ridiculous - no ice cream/sorbet parlour in Italy will ever tell you that it is not possible try a flavour) and you cannot even order two flavours together in one bowl (again, LOL). So you're only option is a big heavy bowl of one single flavour that you cannot try before ordering, so if you don't like it you're stuck with a half pint of sugary ice... The place has no atmosphere, and it smelled heavily of chlorine - not exactly a great experience when you're supposedly enjoying a fresh sorbet. It's...
