I'd read great things about this Italian restaurant so I thought that after visiting Merida for years I'd finally try it. I'm sorry to say that I was somewhat disappointed. My impression, and let me say that I've only been there once, was that it's just adequate, okay, nothing special. There was nothing wrong or bad with the food but there was nothing particularly special that would bring me back there again. I started with a decent Negroni and followed it with the Pizza Palermo. The sauce on the pizza was good but the crust was more like sandwich bread than good pizza dough. The only topping I could tell was some small squares of cheese, possibly mozzarella. All in all, not up to the standards of what I'm used to in Canada, the US or Europe. Had a good Italian red wine with it, which was probably the highlight of the meal, but at $830 mxn. I found it a bit expensive. My companions had pasta dishes which they didn't comment on so I can't say how they were. The dining room is small and quaint and I believe there's also seating outdoors in the back. The service was friendly and well timed, something you don't always get in this town. If you're used to good Italian food from your own city then I'd say, go to a nice local Mexican restaurant and have some of the great local Yucatan cuisine instead while...
Read moreThe worst Italian food I've ever had. You could get a better Lasagna and Arancini at a 711 or a corner store anywhere in the world. Lasagna had no meat or cheese and its pasta part was sticky and overcooked. The Arancini was cold and tasted like it's been prepared a week ago. Disgusting!!! we had sand and debris falling from the celling on our table while the food was on it and to conclude the worst experience, we had ants wondering on the plate under the lasagna bowl.Oh ya and the muscles marinara had absolutely the worst tasteless sauce ever( it's like it was prepared with a 1 dollar tomato sauce from the supermarket around the corner). the waiter kept coming to the table to ask how the food was so we told him first about the debris that was falling and he just wiped the table and then we told him about the arancini and he looked at us and said OK!! and walked away. Then when we saw the ants we called him back and he took the plate with the ants and laughed his way with his coworker while taking the plate to the kitchen.NO APOLOGIES WHATSOEVER!! I swear no word of exaggeration here. THE WORST DINNER AND ITALIAN FOOD EVER ESPECIALLY FOR HOW MUCH THEY CHARGE FOR THIS...
Read moreThree of us went to La Sicilia Restaurante on a Monday evening. We arrived at 7:30, and inside portion of the restaurant was ½ full , we opted to sit outside and were able to get last available table in the charming and rustic open-air backyard space. To start, we shared an order of garlic bread. For our dishes I had the baked ziti pasta, which had a delicious light marinara sauce that I could tell was freshly made along with cheese. Others in our group enjoyed the lasagna, and a fish dish, which unfortunately arrived undercooked. However, the staff promptly addressed the issue, and after a short wait, it was returned fully cooked. We washed it all down with a nice bottle of chianti. For dessert, we had carajillos and shared a tiramisu.
The service was very attentive, and it seemed that everybody spoke English, if needed.
The prices were remarkably reasonable, considering the quality of the food, totaling $1400 before tip.
4.5/5 stars for its excellent service, delicious food,...
