The way we were treated was deeply disrespectful and discriminatory ‐------‐-------- I am extremely disappointed with my recent experience at Cafeteria Manifesto in Merida, Yucatan. As a long-time customer, I have always enjoyed their coffee and ambiance. However, their discriminatory treatment towards my mother and her service animal left a bitter taste in my mouth.
My mother relies on her service animal for assistance due to her disability. Upon entering Cafeteria Manifesto, we were shocked when the staff informed us that the cafe was not pet-friendly and that the service animal was not allowed inside. This incident not only showcases a lack of knowledge but also a disregard for individuals with disabilities.
I had to take it upon myself to educate the staff about the legal distinction between service animals and ordinary pets. It was disheartening to see their initial resistance and unwillingness to understand the importance of accommodating individuals with disabilities even when I offered to show them the animal's certification.
The way we were treated was deeply disrespectful and discriminatory. The staff's ignorance regarding service animals was not only embarrassing but also highlights a severe lack of training and awareness within the establishment.
Cafeteria Manifesto should be well aware of the legal obligations under the law to provide equal access to individuals with disabilities, including those accompanied by service animals. By denying my mother's access, they violated her rights and made her feel unwelcome.
I urge Cafeteria Manifesto to reevaluate their policies, educate their staff about the rights of individuals with disabilities, and implement necessary changes to ensure a truly inclusive and welcoming environment for all customers. Discrimination of any kind should never be tolerated, especially when it affects vulnerable individuals who rely on service animals for daily assistance.
Until Cafeteria Manifesto rectifies this situation and demonstrates a genuine commitment to inclusivity, I cannot recommend this establishment. As a long-standing customer, I am deeply disappointed and hope they take immediate action to...
Read more9/10 - great experience and I will return.
Excellent shop located conveniently near, but not too close to the tourists, Centro. Beautiful interior, kind staff, and tasty food.
Service: Nothing outstanding, but nothing too lacking. I was a little lost as to someone seating me and bringing me a menu, but then no one returning to take an order. I ended up at the coffee bar to order, but from the reaction of the staff I think I ordered in the wrong process. Maybe?
Drink: monthly specialty made of cold brew and... something tasty? It was a great tasting coffee well balanced with flavor and the dilution that can occur when poured over ice.
Food: I had the avocado toast with a generously thick piece of well toasted (well buttered) break. The avocado was fresh and the pepper was just right.
WiFi: strong and easy to log into. They used a QR code to log in with your phone and a well-highlighted sign with password for your laptop access. The most efficient and simple sign in process I've so far experienced in Merida throughout my three work days and many coffeeshops.
Power outlets: available indoors, but not outdoors.
Your food selection will be limited outside of fresh breads, toasts, and pastries. You will be left with only a small number of sandwiches and toast features.
Why only 9/10 stars? The toast was a bit too much. The bread slice would have made for good french toast, but it was too big to appropriately eat avocado from. One half of my avocado slipped off the break and onto the table and my lap. Oops. I'll give myself 90% of that silliness blame.
I hope to write you several more coffeeshop reviews. Please subscribe to my Merida, MX Google Maps list for additional recommendations and suggestions. I will be here two weeks and would love to share with you my...
Read moreRegarding the comment about the service dog.
I was in the cafeteria during the situation and can comment that it was different than how it was worded.
The ladies entered the establishment with two dogs, at that moment one of the baristas approaches her to comment that pets are not allowed. The customer comments that one of them it’s a service animal, that at NO time did the lady explain that it was for her mother, let alone offer to show credentials or educate them. She just said "It's a service animal", and at that moment another barista offers her an apology and says that it's ok, that she can stay. The barista told her that she could sit at the table, and said that he would bring the menu to her table. There was no unwillingness neither discrimination towards them, once it was clear that it was a service dog, they let her stay with no hesitation.
At that moment the customer approaches her mother and between them they argue and decide to leave.
I understand that it is not pleasant to have to explain to people that it is a service dog, however the barista had not noticed that it was written on the vest that it was for that purpose.
I would also like to add that I am a frequent customer, in all the time I have been there the baristas are extremely attentive and friendly, that is why I am making...
