What a terrible place. We wanted to enjoy a nice dinner in the evening. A grumpy lady seated us at a table, and then we were completely ignored for the first 35 minutes. When my girlfriend mentioned that I needed to drink due to medication, otherwise, I would faint, we still had to wait another 15 minutes for a bottle of water. We ordered our food right away at that point. Meanwhile, everyone around us was already being served, and even people who had arrived after us had already received their meals.
After 45 minutes, some food finally arrived , the worst salad we have ever had. We ate it only because we were starving. We then waited another 30 minutes, thinking our tacos were coming, but it turned out to be the wrong order for the table next to us. When our food eventually did arrive, it was once again placed on the wrong table. The food was cold, and the steak in the tacos was completely overcooked, inedible. Again, nothing was done about it.
To make matters worse, my cutlery was taken away, and I never received a replacement. We repeatedly told the waiters that we were unhappy, but our complaints were met with nervous laughter. When it came time to pay, they seemed surprised that we didn’t leave a tip, despite the overpriced food, small portions, and all the issues we had just repeated to them. Paid $1275 MXN for shitty food and our evening ruined. Do...
Read moreTerrible service - twice. I hate writing bad reviews, but twice in the last week, we've been met with incredibly rude service here. We initially came last weekend, but when we went to check-in, we were told we made a reservation at their location at Paseo 60 and were quickly ushered out. Fair enough - that was our bad, but we were still taken aback by how we were treated. Figuring they were just having an "off" night, we made a reservation last night at the correct location via OpenTable. When we showed up a few minutes before our reservation, the hostess asked to see the reservation and quickly told us we had the wrong location. We showed them the email confirmation from OpenTable (with their address - we were at the correct restaurant) and the hostess went to get someone else who told us that they were fully booked and OpenTable hadn't (apparently) reflected that. The hostess and other staff person (I'm guessing manager) were very cold and rude about it and offered no sort of apology or attempt to rectify the situation - just told us they had no room for us. We ended up going across the street to Apoala, who made room for us and treated us incredibly well. We are in Merida for a month, but after these two experiences with TEYA, we will never be returning nor recommending this location (or their other...
Read moreWhat a gorgeous space, wow. My first night in Merida l walked by and said to my friend, "we must try this place!" We stopped in the next day, we were greeted by a very rude hostess saying they had a kitchen issue. As someone who works in the industry, I felt so bad. Later in that same evening they were open so we tried again. They said they were closed, 2 hours prior than their scheduled time. Ok fine. The next day I made a reservation and punctually arrived. The same hostess met us with a very cold and dismissive tone. After sitting down for 10 mins, in an almost empty restaurant we were finally greeted. We were told that they were out of all of there signature items on the menu, but nothing else. Both of us wanted things that they weren't offering. We decided to stay for a drink. What a mistake. It took 45 mins just to get a drink, ask for the check 3 times and leave. My cocktail was delicious, but I have never tried to hard to enjoy a space and be treated to poorly in the process. This is not hospitality. Would not recommend to anyone. After the long wait to get out of there, we ended up having to order to go burgers down the street to take back to the hotel. Not the dining experience we were looking for on our only Saturday evening in this...
