A casual, relaxed neighborhood bar with a great atmosphere but limited beer options. We snagged a last-minute reservation for the bar and were seated right away. We were given a menu and told there was a special Lebanese menu. We decided to try the berenjena dip and a side of fries along with beer, but we were informed that there was just one more Victoria and one Pacifico left, which I thought was odd for a bar on a Friday night. We ordered the last two remaining national beers. The beers arrived first, followed by our appetizers. The fries were a bit small, especially considering their price ($110), but did the job. Unfortunately, we weren’t offered any sauces for them, which was a bummer (6/10). The dip somehow didn’t taste like berenjena at all and was underwhelming (5/10). The vibe of the space was the only positive; it felt intimate yet relaxed without being too pretentious. The food and drink options were disappointing, especially given the limited beer selection (without any other recommendations). The cocktail options didn’t impress me, which is why I opted for beer, yet even that left me disappointed. The service was slow but friendly, but the overall experience...
Read moreThis place is very close to excellence, held back by a couple minor issues. First, the positives - the brie with honey was awesome in tandem with the papas bravas and their acidic sauce. These both played together nicely with the mead, which reminded me of cider but with a few cool variations. I thoroughly enjoyed the drinks.
However, there were a few service hiccups - drinks took a while to come out despite the restaurant being nearly empty, and the server was fairly green, making a couple basic errors with table space (not a big deal, we all gotta learn on the job). Second and more importantly, the dishes were not able to stand alone - without the acidity from the papas bravas, the meal would have been one-note and dull. It was just luck that we ordered complementary dishes, and one could easily have an iffy dining experience with worse fortune.
As mentioned, this place is not far off and is a great drink spot, but needs a bit of refinement before I can wholeheartedly recommend a meal here. Best of luck to Colonia as they’ve got...
Read moreA hidden gem in La Juárez, Colonia Meadery is the perfect spot to unwind, enjoy great music, and sip on a glass of mead. Don’t miss the food—an exquisite blend of Lebanese and Mexican flavors. I highly recommend the Sikil Pak, a delicious eggplant and peach dip; the brie cheese, which is absolutely to die for; and the patatas bravas, a perfect harmony of spices, pepper butter, and fresh parsley.
On weekends, a DJ sets the vibe with an excellent music selection, and the staff couldn't be friendlier. If you're looking to spend a pleasant evening in one of Mexico City’s most vibrant neighborhoods, Colonia Meadery is definitely...
