Just when you think you know your city, an unexpected gem appears on the horizon, bringing with it the tastes and scents of authentic Italian cuisine. Tucked amidst the industrial charm of local car shops, this fresh establishment offers a culinary experience that is as surprising as its location.
Welcome to Darosa, a new Italian restaurant serving up a vibrant blend of traditional dishes, excellent natural wines, and heartwarming hospitality, all set in a rather unexpected locale.
Don't be fooled by its outer shell of chrome and steel. Step inside and you're transported into a world that celebrates Italian culinary traditions. The setting is the loving creation of the owners - a couple whose passion for food is mirrored in every aspect of their establishment. From the décor to the menu, their personal touch is undeniably present, making the restaurant more of an intimate dining experience than a run-of-the-mill eatery.
The interior, designed by the couple themselves, boasts an open-plan design, punctuated by verdant plants that create a soft divide between the bustling street and your dinner plate. It's a balance that retains the neighborhood's unique character while providing a sanctuary for your gastronomic journey.
Adding to this ambiance is the soundtrack to your dining experience, a delightful selection of 80s music playing from a vinyl player, which creates a comforting sense of nostalgia. This nostalgic vibe plays into the whole experience, making your dinner feel like a time-honored family gathering.
But let's talk about the star of the show - the food. Their menu holds a unique balance between traditional Italian fare and dietary considerations. With a selection of gluten-free options, no one is left behind in this Italian journey.
A standout is their Beetroot, Hazelnut, and Cheese Salad - a symphony of textures and flavors that defies the simplicity of its components. The earthy beets, the crunch of hazelnuts, and the creamy cheese come together in a harmony of flavors that leave you craving for more.
Their selection of fish dishes and choice cuts of meat, all prepared gluten-free, demonstrate their skill in letting high-quality ingredients speak for themselves. Each dish is a testament to their dedication to authentic Italian cooking while considering contemporary dietary needs.
And what would an Italian meal be without wine? This couple understands the art of wine pairing, boasting an impressive selection of natural wines that effortlessly complement their dishes.
In essence, Darosa is a beautiful paradox - a rustic, authentic Italian experience nestled in an unexpected industrial setting. If you're in search of culinary authenticity mixed with a dash of nostalgia and a splash of excellent wine, your table awaits at this new gem in the heart of the city. This is more than a restaurant, it's a story of passion, a tale of tradition, and a delicious testament to the diversity and dynamism of the...
Read more4.5 stars - just missing some dmall tocuhes with the food, but would definitely return if I was in the area! Service was great, the atmosphere is intimate and cozy.
What we ate: Buratta with figs - creamy buratta with nicely balsamic glazed figs. Simple. Delicious. Wish it came with bread or something to eat it with. Suppli- perfectly crispy, savory and truffle flavored without that over the top fake truffle taste. Only downside was it came with 1 piece split in half - I wouldn't hope that it came with at least 2 pieces. -pan de la casa - though some reviewers have described it as focaccia, I would not categorized it as such. Still a delicious oliv and tomatoes bread and I would definitely order again. pasta arribiatta - loved tbe choice of pasta, nicely al dented, wish the sauce was a bit spicier for arribiatta pasta trofie - a very fresh, simple, well done pesto pasta. -cannolis - the shells were so light and the ricotta had a beautiful, light lemon taste with tiny bits of lemon zest.
Overall, the food was great! Only wish the portions were a touch bigger- especially for the suppli- the the buratta came with some bread or something to break up the creamy,...
Read moreI'm still in shock on how wonderful Darosa was. It's a bit hidden on the Juárez neighborhood, but I'm sure it won't be long until this place is fully booked weeks in advance.
We were thinking of going directly to the pastas but the waiter recommended the spinach and ricotta gnudi, with a butter and veggies sauce. Boy, was he right and was I thankful. They were AMAZING. We also had a focaccia on the side, which was delicious as well (but a bit pricey, if you ask me: $75 MXN for four mini slices).
As main dishes we had the bolognese lasagna, which I could say is the best I've had in Mexico City. Mom got a pesto lasagnette, which was very good as well, and I died and went to heaven with the pomodoro and stracchiatella spaguetti. It was PERFECTION.
The only "just okay" dishes we had were the desserts: the tiramisu with hazelnut, (with actual hazelnuts inside!) and the herb panacotta, which I could've spared.
Wine offering has fair prices, but I wish they would've had more Mexican wines :) We tried the Cau Eden (Pla d'Oum), which was okay.
Service was amazing, friendly and definitely knew the dishes by heart.
I can't wait...
