Truly the best gelato I have ever eaten. I tried a few flavours before picking the three I wanted to eat. Strawberry & balsamic is very delicious. The balsamic really enhances the strawberry flavour. I was lucky to try the olive oil after seeing other reviews. The flavour is subtle, but I went for the cacao, which is rich. Naranja & salvia, which is very refreshing. To finish, I had pistachio, and I can't imagine tasting another gelato or ice cream as good as this one ever again. All the gelato is freshly made, and the flavours change often. They do not have that artificial taste that you will find in other flavoured products.
I will definitely be back and would love to recommend rum and raisin or black forest. It would be amazing to taste your version. I don't have enough words to tell you how good it is here. You just have to come here and...
Read moreThis is a very special place. I’m a big time dessert lover, but Joe’s Gelato is more than just dessert. I met the man, Joe, himself serving up his creations just before closing time on a Tuesday evening. He told me all about how he studied gelato making in Italy and how he personally goes to farmers markets every morning to see what’s fresh and then creates new flavors for his gelato EACH AND EVERY SINGLE DAY. How mind blowing is that?? Did I mention that everything I tried (pistachio, olive oil, and cempasuchil in particular) were INSANELY good? I’ll note that I’ve had gelato plenty of times in Italy and this gelato is even better than many I’ve tried there. I cannot recommend a visit (or more than one) to this place enough for the quality of the ice cream and the man behind...
Read moreThe problem with this place is the expectation. When my wife and I went there, pistaccio and olive oil ice cream flavors were sold out. We ordered then:
Gianduia 8/10. There are several other chocolate ice creams in the city with the same quality. Try Thriffty for instance.
Apple 5/10. Way too sweet, and not very good.
Banana 5/10. Ultra sweet. It tastes as bananas with cream and 5 sugar spoons.
Espresso coffee. 7/10. Not that good, you can find coffee ice cream better elsewhere.
We might go back to try pistaccio and olive oil, but the 4 flavors we tried are not near Rome's quality whatsoever. And you have to queue inside the place, with no air conditioner, you literally melt...
