We were supposed to go to Contramar but not having found a place, my friend and I on vacation in Mexico City went to Entremar. The place is classic, clean with friendly staff but in my opinion overly rushed and pressed. You would not finish things on your plate that would be taken away in a second, take a sip of water and they would run to refill your glass to bring you another expensive bottle. We had several dishes, a tostada with raw fish, ceviche, octopus and potatoes, black rice, and tacos. The food was pretty good, nothing exceptional compared to other places we ate in Mexico City, the black rice didn't really excite us. We left half a plate of it there. I assure you that we are good forks with experience in many restaurants of even high level. Total expense for 2 without wine is about $60 each. I am leaving a negative review, for food and service it would not be higher than 3, because about 1 hour after dinner my friend and I were very sick, with severe intestinal discomfort that ruined our last two days in Mexico City, having to give up the tours we had booked and all the plans we had made, and made the long trip back very complicated. We contacted the venue to report what had happened and at least ask for a refund for dinner, and they offered to pay the pharmacy fees..which was totally...
Read moreThis is why people hate coming to restaurants! Just as we began to look at the menu a waiter appeared and asked what we wanted to drink. We told him we needed a few minutes and he proceeded to stand and breathe down our necks as we looked at the wine menu. After we ordered drinks, we told the waiter we needed a few minutes to decide on appetizers. Our waiter was intolerable - he pushed us to order appetizers and then started pressuring us and to ordering the grilled octopus and whole fish, the priciest items in restaurant. We wanted to spend a few minutes with the menu but they wouldn't allow it, they just stood at our table side waiting, or they would leave and come back in 45 seconds. The most awkward and uncomfortable meal I've ever had. At the very end, we left leaving a paltry tip in the waiter asked us to leave more. They pressured the tables around us into ordering the $50 whole fish so I guess this "sales" strategy working for them. The ceviche and sea bass fillet were good, but the octopus tostadas were forgettable. Overall horrible rushed service like they were trying to flip our table in 20 minutes even though there were empty tables around us. They need to realize that people come to restaurants not only for food, but for good conversation and entertainment. You're rushing people...
