Excellent sushi in a wonderful atmosphere. We've been several times. Sushi, soup and dishes are precisely prepared, among the best in CDMX for sushi at this point. From outside to the rear atrium area, comfy and upscale, with good service. One complaint, which is not enough to merit losing a star, and will hopefully reach staff and be corrected: on our last visit, we were upsold an appetizer when ordering, with promises of it being "excellent." It was the one thing here that was far from excellent; one fish portion was, well, fishy in taste in the worst sort of way. The price on the bill was higher than the entrees, making it a double ouch-- if you're going to upsell something (thus, it's something that the diner didn't really want), make sure it's good, especially if it is pricey! Reading other reviews-- I see that others also received soups far before main dishes, long enough to complete the soups before a dining companion is served. This is a problem as well which I hope management will address. Again, relatively small complaints against an otherwise above-the-average series of...
Read moreDemerit better than some of the other Asian restaurants I've been to in terms of flavor. However the service is strange and the portions are also strange.
I orders the shrimp tempura upon plate which came with the same serving of noodles you expect from a ramen packet. Lots of broth, and two, thin pieces of tempura shrimp and some pieces of vegetables. I was so confused, waiting for the rest but that was it haha.
I also ordered shrimp gyros as an appetizer with curry sauce and that was good but I almost complained because you get 6 pieces and two were stuck together - yeah I counted em haha.
The hot sauce is good kinda of like gochujang just not as sweet.
The worst part for me was the service. I had like 3 different servers. When I first arrived the guy was confused as i was looking for a menu. Then the second server was cool. The third was moving a mile a minute and it wasn't even that busy, the place is small, stressing me out for no reason haha.
Overall though, the flavor is good and of you crave some Japanese food in the area then I do recommend just don't look...
Read moreWe come here quite often as my daughter loves it. We like it best when we can order from Nam too, but as it's being remodeled, we cannot order from that menu. Prices at Koku are reasonable. We had the shrimp gyoza in curry sauce as a starter. As we were hungry, we grabbed our spoons and gobbled it up. The curry sauce is on the sweet side so be warned. I ordered the miso soup, it was simple and hearty and just right for the cold weather. I had the vegetable yakimeshi and my daughter had the curry coconut ramen with chicken. She says that the ramen at Nam is much better. As for the rice, I recommend mixing it before eating if you like it evenly spiced as I do. I liked the rice because there were so many different flavors and textures. The ginger was a nice touch. Although I was thrilled it didn't have fried egg, the first bite tasted like egg. The rice is probably mixed on the same griddle where they also fry egg for other yakimeshis. I love sitting in the backroom. It's cosy and lovely with the plants and glass roof. We will probably be back in the...
