This place is almost always packed. It's super picturesque like out of a movie if you were shooting an establishing shot from street level. So naturally I thought the food was going to be phenomenal.
The house bread is great. Freshly baked, thin, crispy with dough bubbles, so of course their pizza game is strong with classics like margherita and interesting flavor combos, like smoked pork neck and raddichio. My friends ate there and loved the pizza.
I wanted to try something else, because we have amazing pizza in NYC so why not try something new.
Maybe I ordered the wrong things. The farro tabouli - you know the dish made of mostly chopped parsley/tomato and bulgar wheat? Here it's garnished with a sprig of parsley on top and like 4 cherry tomato halves and mostly farro. Feels like something one could get at a cold bar at any buffet, it also tasted gummy (old). The bean soup - was bland, thin (watered down) and tasted mostly of olive oil. The lamb kebab - was ground lamb crumbles in something similar to a Peking duck wrapper - Tasted good, but that's not a kebab, when you name something kebab, one expects meat cooked on a skewer, you know like a kebab. The ragu was very runny + noodles overcooked. But it had a good flavor. We also ordered a drink that never came. The restaurant was not very busy at all so not sure why that happened. It showed up on the bill anyway. They did take it off when informed though.
The wait staff were very quick to try and clear away our plates too. Felt like a rushed meal pacing wise.
The restaurant is beautiful though and has a great ambiance. So if you're getting drinks and bites at the bar- You'll probably have a good time vs a proper sit down meal. Overall, mainly only memorable because of how high expectations were (this place is super popular!) and then falling flat for me. It's not worth the price tag of $1000 pesos ($50 USD) I would rather eat at Huset any day...
Read moreThe kind of place that effortlessly beckons a crowd—airy, sun-drenched, and draped in greenery weaving in and out of the space. It feels inviting and refined, a neighborhood favorite with an undeniable pull.
If you’re coming, let me steer you toward breakfast. Its morning menu easily outshines its later offerings. The matcha latte was surprisingly solid, lightly sweet and not overly milky. The cinnamon roll delivered a satisfying dose of cinnamon and sweetness. The butternut squash pancakes were outstanding—moist, subtly sweet, light, and dodged the usual pancake-induced sluggishness. The tomato and goat cheese quiche fell flat, entirely skippable. Scrambled eggs with bacon brought comfort to the forefront—fluffy, well-seasoned, with crispy bits of bacon woven throughout.
Lunch, on the other hand, struggled to keep up. The hummus with pita bread was a letdown—lacking creaminess, lemon, and tahini, paired with lackluster pita. The ricotta-stuffed zucchini blossoms were crisp but not particularly memorable. The arugula salad, though fresh, was small and overly dressed. The endives, beet, and orange salad was the clear standout—a bright, refreshing combination of earthy beets and citrusy sweetness, anchored by a labneh base.
Service? Functional. No frills. They take your order, bring the food, clear the plates, drop the bill. No complaints, no standouts. Even on a busy New Year’s morning, the wait for a table was reasonable, and the quiet street made for a pleasant wait.
Bottom line—come for breakfast. When lunchtime rolls around, maybe take your...
Read moreMy hotel was less than a 5 min walk away so I walked past this restaurant many times during my stay in CDMX. Every single time there were loads of people outside, it’s always super busy!
One morning I happened to walk past a little earlier than normal, and it wasn’t as busy so thought I’d try my luck and see what the hype was all about.
Solo, I was placed at the bar and yes, like many others have said, it is an extremely beautiful restaurant. The decor, the style, the overall aesthetic is gorgeous but for me, I didn’t understand what else about it causes the constant lines of people outside.
Maybe I tried to wrong things on the menu? I only had a light breakfast as I already had lunch plans. Maybe my experience might’ve been different if I’d had a larger meal? Either way, I thought the food was just okay. The service wasn’t particularly friendly or memorable, in fact they brought me someone else’s coffee and it was thanks to someone else translating that I realised!
I’m not sure what coffee I had in the end. Think it had coconut milk in it? It wasn’t amazing. The cranberry scone was actually pretty tasty but very small. The mango was yummy but there wasn’t much yoghurt? Also it was supposed to be coconut yoghurt but I couldn’t taste any coconut flavour. Quite disappointing, if I’m honest. I was expecting more because of the queues.
