Place was lovely. Service was nice enough... specifically came here for the Japanese pancakes, and unfortunately they're just normal pancakes that are extra thick. They were still yummy though, but nothing at all like the real deal, which I've had at many places when traveling through Japan.
If someone is like "this is just your opinion, man" - no... Japanese pancakes have a distinctly different texture, taste, fluffiness, from normal pancakes... a consistency of something like heavy cream. These are doughy. It's an immediately obvious difference. The first time someone has proper Japanese pancakes it's truly a "wtf" moment as they seem impossible, esp. if you go to one of the more renowned places in Tokyo.
There IS another place in Condesa that makes proper Japanese pancakes (not amazing, but they're clearly in the ballpark). Noticed this place claimed to serve them as well, and visually they looked more on-point, so thought I'd give it a shot. Feel slightly bad about giving this place 3 stars as it would be higher if they were simply called "pancakes"... because they were very good traditional pancakes. But I didn't come...
Read moreI recently had breakfast at Yellow Monkey and had a mix of impressions. The ambiance of the place was notably pleasant, creating a welcoming atmosphere for a morning meal.
The service stood out as excellent. The staff at Yellow Monkey was attentive and professional, making the dining experience smooth and enjoyable.
I opted for the breakfast bowl, which included plain yogurt, a variety of berries, and granola. While the ingredients were fresh and the combination was kind of tasty, I found the price to be steep. At 155 MXN, the breakfast bowl felt overpriced, especially considering the simplicity of the dish and portion size.
Despite the issue with pricing, the overall experience at Yellow Monkey was great. The ambiance and service certainly added to the positive aspects of the visit. While I would recommend this place for its atmosphere and customer service, I hope they reconsider their pricing, particularly for simpler dishes like the breakfast bowl and would consider a la carte for items like...
Read moreThe homemade natural sodas (we tried Mango & Ginger ) were AMAZING. They gave us a fruit concentrate + a bottle of sparkling water to pour over it.
We came at ~6pm and did not want breakfast (which is what I initially want to try here after reading reviews). We ordered the Calamari for the app, White Fish, and Sirloin Burrito. The burrito was the best item but could have been made with more care (it was cut in half- perfect for sharing. But ingredients were not spread well. One half had wayyy more meat than the other).
Fish plate did not indicate that it would be lightly breaded & fried. That was disappointing. The vegetables it came with were good though!
Calamari- too thickly breaded for our preferences. Wouldn’t get this again.
Service was good. But moved pretty slow. Got a local craft beer that was deliciousss but it would have been better more cold.
Would come back to try the breakfast items and try more of their homemade...
