A playful bubble tea shop with a limited, yet pricey selection of boba and disappointing service. Walking into the small but bright shop, we waited in line while checking out the menu. The barista at the cashier had an indifferent expression, not even offering a simple greeting. With an attitude, he took our order, and while paying by card, still had the audacity to ask for a tip.
We ordered the green jasmine and the brown sugar, both with low sweetness. There was little guidance on the different options and toppings to customize the tea—the barista mostly asked for the type of milk and foam option, which I declined. However, I wasn’t asked about the type of boba or even the different sugar levels and options beyond the basic “amount of it.”
It took around 5-7 minutes before our drinks were ready. The first sips of the brown sugar were sweeter than expected, even with the “low sweetness” option. After mixing, it improved slightly, but it still became overly sweet after a while (7/10). The green jasmine was better in terms of sweetness but lacked flavor overall (6/10).
At $128, the price is steep for bubble tea, but for 650 ml, it’s somewhat justifiable, yet a bit more than average compared to other shops. However, the biggest downside was the service—the staff’s indifferent attitude really soured the experience, making it feel like they were doing us a favor by serving us. That alone makes me hesitate to return.
On the bright side, the small shop has a decent seating area, with a few (uncomfortable) seats inside and more outside, making it a pleasant spot to enjoy some sips of boba tea. There’s also a restroom—small but clean—which earns some bonus points for simply...
Read morePuni Puni stands out among the many options for bubble tea in the area. The happy go lucky design calls out to the passerby like myself and I ended up having the brown sugar classic and it did not disappoint. The flavor was spot on, the sweetness was just right ( I hate when my bubble tea is too sweet) and the boba was just the right texture, not too chewy or too hard. It had “cheese foam” and that was surprisingly good as well. I’m not a tea expert but I do like boba tea and I have traveled extensively through Asia, and Puni Puni would be a place I’d visit anywhere. Upon reading other reviews, I saw a trend about the service and the tips that I would like to address as this is what sometimes gives places a bad rep that they do not deserve. Absolutely nobody asked me for a tip. Upon paying with card, the machine automatically gives the OPTION for tipping. That being said, service was good and the cashier patient with the customer in front of me who asked 20 questions before settling. I would come back any...
Read moreThe place looks cute and is located in a nice area, however, it’s definitely not worth it. The drinks are way overpriced for what you get. The cups are made of super soft plastic, making them really inconvenient to hold, especially with a sealed lid. Also, they only offer cold drinks.
Moreover, I don’t like that they also ask you for tips, come on it’s just...
