After several visits to the Parian Plaza in the heart of the Roma neighborhood, we decided to finally try out this Tijuana-style taco shop. There was a bit of a wait right before the busy dinner taco rush. We were attended by a nice waitress who took our names down. We waited about 10 minutes before being seated at the back tables of this “tiny” restaurant.
As soon as we sat down, our server quickly appeared, welcomed us, and asked for our drink order. I felt rushed to place our orders, which wasn’t a great first impression. We ordered a beer and an horchata with coconut drink. The horchata was too sweet and overpowering. We also felt rushed with taking our food orders. The menu was confusing because the tacos didn’t seem like tacos due to their higher price tag, and the trompo section sold them as three tacos. I wanted to mix and match the different trompos but didn’t see that option.
I ordered the trompo de carne asada tacos and asked for flour tortillas but was told that wasn’t possible, which was hard to believe. They sold both corn and flour tortillas, but I couldn’t choose? This seemed super odd and downright dumb. I changed my mind and opted for the Tijuanita, a larger taco with carne asada, guacamole, potato bits, and cheese. For $99 pesos, it was a bigger taco, and I enjoyed the flavors and the salsa that accompanied it. This was the taco I was looking for in the trompo section but got a supreme version of it.
Since it was just one taco, we opted to try the frijoles chinos with chorizo. I initially wanted one more taco and asked if there was a taco with these beans, but I got a resounding no. Then I was told the frijoles chinos came with five tortillas, which was confusing. We ordered the beans and got four tortillas instead of the promised five. The beans were fine but too spicy for my liking, and the grease was excessive. However, the tortillas were very authentic and reminiscent of Northern Mexico style flour tortillas.
Another negative was the lack of toilets in this very small establishment. One restroom was available and is outside in the shopping area, shared by all the tenants. Towards the end of our meal, the rushing was more obvious, as it seemed they wanted other customers to take our spot, which felt unprofessional and was off-putting. We paid and left on a sour note.
Although Tacos del Valle is a new taco shop in the area with potential, the execution of the menu and the staff was disappointing. The menu was confusing and inflexible, and despite the decent tacos, every other aspect was just...
Read moreThe only reason I’m writing a review is because I made my husband wait in line (opens at 1 pm) before opening for this super trendy spot- which he hates doing. This place is so ridiculously popular with gringos and travelers we waited about 45 min to get seated before 1pm. They were also late to opening (you could tell the staff was stressed and still prepping), so that didn’t help. We were the 5th people in line for 2. The rest of the people behind us- full house. They basically put in all the orders for everyone behind us in line simply cause we sat at the bar and they forgot about us. Then they told us the wait was going to be an additional 10 min for one of the meats and asked if we wanted to wait. Of course we do- we just waited for like 45 min for these tacos. then we noticed literally everyone behind us in line had their food (ordered the same tacos trio) and a patty of 2 in the back of the line had finished eating then left.
Eventually it all worked out and we got everything we ordered. But honestly I was pretty pissed. Since we moved our day around to get here at opening (to eliminate a crazy 90+ wait time in line)
The staff was very polite and checked in with us. The food is very good- but 3x the price of street tacos and honestly comparable in taste. I got the trio- and I honestly couldn’t even taste the meats apart- aside from the Asada which is clearly beef. I think we had better street tacos prior to this for 1/10th of the wait. The kitchen staff hard working and great.
All in all. Not worth the wait- esp if you’re going to put in every order in front of us when we waited in line. If your a popular spot, people taking 1plus hour out of travel day to eat at your spot- might be worth taking in consideration.
This is also our third time trying to eat here since the wait is do god damn long. Won’t come back. Beautiful tacos for instagram though- that seems to be the hype, and you eat...
Read moreOk, let me start with saying that this place lost its place on earth since they went viral on the internet their prices out of the roof even do I’m still paying with dollars and not pesos I feel bad for the locals. So I showed up with my family from Mexico City and I made the decision to take them there because of the viral videos but their staff is not well organized and have ZERO customer service. This waitress had the audacity to tell my cousin that she had to eat standing up and the other side of the window? Last time I checked I was paying full price for the tacos and not on the street and after I thought she was super rude I made the decision to leave this place. BUT you’re not going to believe what the waitress did she sent the General Manager after me to pay for the stuff we ordered with out eating. I told her to called the cops because where I come from we don’t pay for things that we don’t eat she was very persistent to pay for the bill. I told her to just cancel your sale I’m sure the owner is NOT going to go poor for 4 tacos and 2 drinks that I ordered. I’m definitely won’t comeback to this place even do is goes viral and won a MICHELIN AWARD this place SUCKS in customer service made me look bad with my family and chasing me over 30$ dollars...
