Toks — Restaurant in Mexico City

It was a Friday evening 7pm. The restaurant wasn't busy when we entered. We were a large party of 12. Service at 1st was friendly albeit slow to take our order and get us our drinks. It was at least 730pm before our food order was taken. Another 30mins before the 1st few meals were brought out. Finally at the 40min mark, our salads came out, but without dressing. We waited a few mins to get our waitress' attention. I finally got up and tried to get the attention of anyone...surely anyone can get us some salad dressing that doesn't require any preparation and would allow us to finally eat our salad that we had been waiting 44mins for. Our waitress saw me approaching the male staff member, came my way with aggression to say "the food is coming, you just have to be patient" without even realizing what I was asking for. I hadn't even asked about the other dishes we were hungrily but patiently waiting for. Finally, 2 little single servings of dressing came for 3 full salads ordered. Then I had to ask yet again for the 3rd person's dressing. My nephew gave up and ate his salad without dressing. By the one hour mark, 11 of us had all finished our meals, but my husband's Philadelphia sandwich hadn't even come out. No one said a things. When my husband asked about his sandwich in Spanish, the waitress aggressively yelled she doesn't speak English...only Spanish. Ummm, we live in Mexico and he was speaking Spanish. Thanks for listening attentively. At this point, we asked for the bill. Said cancel the sandwich. She returned to the kitchen then returned asking if we wanted the sandwich to go. No thanks. We would get faster and better service at a taco stand outside. The bill came, with the sandwich we never received still on it. Really?? After speaking to the manager who was very professional, we were told the kitchen was short staffed. I have been to restaurants before with understaffed kitchens and front ends. But in those instances, the wait staff kindly explained to us the situation, checked in on us to confirm our order was coming and we happily waited patiently and tipped generously for their hard work despite the circumstances. In this case at Toks, the wait staff said nothing to us while making us wait up to 1 hour for our orders, acted like we were being unreasonable for asking nicely for salad dressing (which should have come with our salads) and basically thought with 7 kids it was reasonable to make us wait this long for our meals. Never again will I go to Toks , especially this location for a meal. Better training of staff, better communication with customers could have made a huge difference in our experience. Food was okay. Very poor service and cold food. It was not a busy night and we were sat quickly and drink orders taken quickly. But when we ordered our appetizer our server did not bring it. We requested a second drink and the server did not bring it. We ordered our meals (Party of 6) and we received 3 plates after a while, one was missing it's red sauce and the server never stopped to check in if everything was okay, and not was he available to flag for assistance. The next three plates (a club sandwich with fries, 1 shrimp tostada, and 1 molcajete with three meats, did not arrive for another 45 minutes and we finished finished our first three plates before the last three arrived. When they finally did arrive the fries on the club sandwich were absolutely cold, and the molcajete with three meats was also half cold and half lukewarm. We flagged the hostess that the items were cold and she took them back and they were warmed in a few minutes, but the club sandwich was burnt on the corners and the molcajete was still uneven with the temperature. We finished our meal unsatisfied will not be back. Servicio pésimo y comida fría. No era una noche muy ocupada y nos sentaron rápido. Nos tomaron nuestra orden de bebidas rápidamente. Pero cuando pedimos nuestro aperitivo, el mesero no nos lo trajo. Pedimos una segunda bebida y el mesero no nos la trajo. Pedimos nuestras comidas (éramos 6) y nos trajeron tres platos después de un buen rato; a uno le faltaba la salsa roja y el camarero no se detuvo a comprobar si todo estaba bien ni estuvo disponible para pedirle ayuda. Los siguientes tres platos (un sándwich club con papas fritas, 1 tostada de camarones y 1 molcajete con tres carnes) no llegaron hasta 45 minutos después y terminamos nuestros primeros tres platos antes de que llegaran los últimos tres. Cuando finalmente llegaron, las papas fritas del sándwich club estaban absolutamente frías y el molcajete con tres carnes también estaba medio frío y medio tibio. Le avisamos a la anfitriona que los artículos estaban fríos y ella los devolvió y se calentaron en unos minutos, pero el sándwich club estaba quemado en las esquinas y el molcajete todavía estaba desnivelado con la temperatura. Toks has an upscale vibe. The food is well prepared and beautifully presented. It’s October, so the Pan de Muerto was on the pastry trays. We had the double chocolate. Sadly, we ate it before thinking of a photo, so you can’t see it; but trust me. It was delicious. We had Huevos Al Sartén con Jocoque. It was delicious and filled with flavor. We also had the omelette del huerto with green chile chilaquiles. The combination of the vegetables that filled the omelette with the bright flavors of the chilaquiles was delightful. The breakfasts come with choice of coffee or tea and choice of Joyce or fruit. Great breakfast!! Our waitress was friendly and made sure we were well...
