In Oaxaca, slow-cooked smoked meat generally means barbacoa, the indigenous method of cooking underground. But now we have another option, and it’s extraordinary.

A few years ago, Armando got hooked on Texas-style BBQ and had a singular idea - what if he started with the half-century of knowledge from his father (also conveniently named Armando) on the preparation of barbacoa and combined it with his Texas BBQ?

The answer is an incredible fusion of two father-son pit masters. This is truly the best BBQ I’ve ever had.

Whenever I pass through Texas, I make a BBQ stop. I’ve had my share of greats. I’m as hooked as Armando was when he first tried it. These days I think of US BBQ as a fix I need until I get to Armando’s place for the real thing. Same with US Mexican food.

I haven’t had a bad dish or even a mediocre one. The pulled pork? OMG. The brisket? The pork loin??? Even their sides stand out. Simple potatoes or cole slaw are next level.

And another bonus. Dad’s 50 years of barbacoa is combined with 30 years of owning the largest bakery chain in Oaxaca. They make their brioche rolls in-house and I tell you they are like butter. Silky smooth and rich. Never had anything like this in Texas.

In short, you need to eat here. Try the local barbacoa. Try Texas BBQ. Then you’ll be ready for what happens when they get...

Smoked meats aren’t exactly common in Oaxaca, which makes discovering BBQ422 such a standout experience. Anyone familiar with true barbecue knows there are no shortcuts—just time, patience, and a whole lot of care. That’s exactly what Armando and Ester bring to the table. Their respect for the craft is evident in every bite.

I’ve had BBQ in the South and in Texas, and I can confidently say BBQ422 holds its own among the best. The brisket is an absolute must—tender, juicy, with just the right amount of fat and smoke. The pulled pork is perfectly complemented by a coleslaw that’s crisp and acidic, cutting through the richness in all the right ways. And their house BBQ sauce? Balanced, flavorful, and not overly sweet.

What truly sets BBQ422 apart, though, is the passion behind it. Armando and Ester are not just cooking—they’re honoring a tradition and doing it with remarkable dedication. If you’re in Oaxaca and craving something different, treat yourself to this unforgettable BBQ experience. You...

I lucked out booking my Airbnb with Armando otherwise I wouldn’t had his delicious bbq! I’m originally from Texas and consider myself something of a BBQ snob and after years of living in NY I have more or less given up on eating good BBQ outside of Texas or Louisiana The brisket was amazing, probably the best. I have ever had! The ribs were great too I’m going to recommend this place to everyone I know ...

Armando and Ester do a fantastic job making some of the best BBQ in Oaxaca. They always greet you with a smile and generous with the portions. I love all the offerings ribs, brisket, pulled pork, bacon and salmon. They have really nice BBQ sauce and mustard sauce that are also home made. I have been several times in 2024 and give them the highest recommendation. Support local businesses while in Oaxaca
