Chitelpin: Where Flavor Meets the Sea

Nestled in the heart of Playa del Carmen, Chitelpin is a culinary treasure trove for seafood enthusiasts. Let’s dive right in!

A Sure Bet for Fish Lovers Chitelpin doesn’t play games when it comes to fish. It’s a sure bet for those seeking an authentic Mexican experience. Whether you’re on the run or ready to party, this place caters to all appetites. Craving tacos? They’ve got 'em. How about tortas? Absolutely. And if you’re in the mood for a substantial main course, Chitelpin won’t disappoint.

Balancing Act Near the 5th Avenue Location matters, and Chitelpin strikes the perfect balance. Situated close to the bustling 5th Avenue, it’s a stone’s throw from the action. But here’s the twist: the prices won’t make your wallet weep. Touristy sticker shock? Not at Chitelpin. The quality-price ratio is a secret weapon—the flavors are rich, but the bill won’t break the bank.

Chitelpin dances to its own beat. Reservations? Nope. Come evening, expect queues. The locals know the drill. But fear not! Here’s a pro tip: lunchtime tranquility. Slide in during the day, enjoy the cool shade under the ceiling, and savor every bite. The fish tacos? Divine. The tortas? Irresistible. And that ceviche? Oh, it sings.

Chitelpin’s Magic Recipe. Picture this: cozy tables, laughter in the air, and the tantalizing aroma of grilled fish. The sea whispers its secrets into every dish. As you sip your margarita, you’ll wonder how they manage it all. But that’s the thing about Chitelpin—it’s more than a restaurant. It’s a culinary fiesta, fueled...

Both of us were unhappy with our food. Out of the six items we ordered, we only liked one of them and that was the fried shrimp tacos.

I ordered the tuna sashimi tostada, there was too much brown sauce (tasted like soy) that overpowered the delicate and precious flavors of the tuna.

I also got the narwara octupus and beef taco, which I couldn't identify the octupus because there was so much Mennonite cheese. And the "beef" that I did find looked like pork floss. And it was incredibly heavy on the flavor that I couldn't finish it.

The third item was the stewed marlin taco, which tasted like the free shrimp soup that we got from them - which was too shrimpy. And I know I wasn't eating shrimp because I could clearly see the marlin pieces.

My husband ordered the dark beer batter fish taco, and the breading was so thick, and the fish was too learn for our preference.

The second item my husband ordered was the narwara shrimp and beef taco, but also couldn't taste the shrimp or beef or anything else because there was so much Mennonite cheese.

And the last was the only good item, the fried shrimp tacos.

The portions were big and we were full afterwards.

Also when we paid with card, the waiter asked how much we wanted to tip and my husband said 15%. It doesn't seem like the waiter was good at math, because he charged extra than 15%. So when paying with card just tell them the amount you want to tip (10, 15 pesos, etc.) because the card machine doesn't have the option of selecting...

Skip this place, far better places to eat un PDC. Came here for dinner because of all the reviews. Sad to say food and drinks are just okay. For $135 a cocktail I cant say they were overpriced but you definitely get what you paid for. The day we were here it was downpouring and they seemed to have no effective method of getting the water out of the ceiling (sun covers) other than making it pour on the floor and sweeping all the water across the floor to pour over the curb. Everything was WET to say the least!! No precaution due to wet floor and the fact its a pool of a floor to get to the restrooms. Food felt rushed, waiters constantly cleaning up our table wiping it down although everything was wet from the rain and WE WERE ALL STILLL EATING!! Felt like they wanted to rush us out of the establishment in a very passive and rude way even though we spent almost $200 dollars. Food and drinks were unreasonably slow given the establishment was not full by any means. Additionally, we requested help finding the number of a taxi company so that we would not have to walk in the pouring rain at 10pm. We were offered little to no help in getting a taxi (claimed they had no numbers they could provide and recommended a taxi app that did not work). Ended up having to leave walking in the rain only ro be stopped at the door to ask why we hadnt left a tip!! As if no tip was not self explanatory…..😒😒 Just rude and distasteful just...

I had high hopes for Chiltepin Marisquillos given its impressive reviews, but unfortunately, my experience was a letdown. The atmosphere was inviting, which set the stage for what I thought would be a delightful meal. However, the food fell flat in several key areas. Starting with the octopus, I was expecting a burst of flavor, but instead, it had an odd taste that overshadowed any potential for enjoyment. The presentation didn’t do it any favors either; it looked messy and unappetizing, which was surprising for a place with such a strong reputation. The ceviche was another disappointment. It lacked the vibrant flavors that are usually the highlight of this dish, leaving it feeling rather bland and uninspired. The messy plating only added to the overall disappointment, making it hard to appreciate what little flavor was there. As for the service, it was acceptable but not memorable. The staff was polite, but there was nothing exceptional about the service that would bring me back. Overall, Chiltepin Marisquillos did not live up to its high ratings. With bland food, messy presentations, and mediocre service, I left feeling unsatisfied and unlikely to return. It seems that sometimes, a high review score doesn't guarantee a great dining experience.
