We went to this place expecting the best after watching advertisements along 5th St. in Playa del Carmen, but after visiting it I have several comments: Drinks: I went with 4 people in early February, we ordered 2 wine Chardonnay cups and 2 cocktail… to make the story short, our drinks showed up after one hour from ordering them. ONE HOUR and the place wasn’t even full, there were 50% occupancy at the max. Food: We ordered one appetizer with the drinks but…after one long hour waiting for our drink we expected our appetizer soon enough, then we decided to go to the restrooms…. Bathrooms: The lady’s bathroom was so dirty hat we decided to canceled the food (after one long hour). Concert portal patties is the most similar place that I can find to describe the bathroom from this place. Not to mention the bad smell, all bathroom stalls had wet floors and really dirty toilets and one of them were totally clogged with… I think you all get the picture. The dirtiness in their bathroom was something that I was never expected from this type of please and it was really disappointing. Service: After all the bad experience… we respectfully talk with our waiter about all the bad factors of the night and he said that we have to wait for the entries and also payed for them… he said that it was to late to cancel the food (after more that one our for one appetizer) so we ask for the credit card machine to pay and leave that horrible place and guess what… it took the waiter another 20 minutes to bring the machine and finally payed 🙄. I must said that we spend one week Riviera Maya and the experience in Mandarino Cafe was the worst in Playa del Carmen by faaar. Don’t lose you money in this place… there are places 5 minutes walking distance like Porfirios or the Greek place in front of Porfirios that really make you feel like royalty all night long. For breakfast “La cueva del Chango”, “La Brioche”. For a bite in the afternoon “las hijas de la tostada” among other have great options I hope you guys find this review useful and enjoy...

Valentine’s Day Disaster – Avoid This Restaurant!

On Valentine’s Day, I went to this restaurant for dinner, expecting a nice meal to celebrate the occasion. Unfortunately, it turned out to be the worst dining experience I’ve ever had.

First, I had to wait a long time before anyone even came to take my order. I had to ask for it myself. Once my order was finally placed, I waited 1 hour and 25 minutes before reaching my limit. My baby was getting tired, and we just wanted to enjoy a meal and go home.

I went to speak with the waitress, telling her to cancel everything. Instead of acknowledging the delay, she asked if one of the dishes could be served first while the other followed. I then asked, “What about the appetizers?” She responded that they weren’t ready and that there was only one cook in the kitchen.

Five minutes later, she suddenly returned, saying the appetizers were now ready. They were placed on the table without cutlery, and when I tasted them, they were absolutely terrible. That was the final straw. I told them I was leaving and would only pay for the drinks we had started.

At that point, a rude, arrogant woman with auburn hair told me I had to pay for everything, or there would be “problems.” I refused. I was not going to pay for food that I waited almost two hours for and that was inedible.

When I asked for a manager, there was none. Thankfully, another waitress, who was much kinder and more understanding, resolved the situation and completely understood my frustration.

I have traveled and dined all over Mexico, and I have never had such a terrible experience. This was by far the worst.

I absolutely do not...

We went last night for a dinner reservation for our wedding. The food was horrible , out of 16 people only two were satisfied with their food. I ordered a clam fettuccini and the clams were so tiny , bare even existent. My mother ordered an Alfredo pasta that had no flavor. My cousins lasagna was literally frozen and they took it back to heat it up. A salad only had lettuce in it. Most people had to send back their food to the kitchen , at least two orders were wrong, and my wife’s order was brought about 45 minutes after everyone else’s. Not including the fact that we made a deposit which we were told the value of would be deducted from the total of the dinner. They said since we did not have the receipt this could not be done and we lost that money, although the staff knew exactly the amount that we had deposited and it was in their system , their logic was that without the physical piece of paper present it was just invalid. Over all we selected this place for our wedding dinner party due to the ambiance which was good. But the actual food and service was beyond awful. I would not recommend this place to anyone for any occasion. I think it is overrated and they take advantage of their image in order to serve cold , awful food way below the standard. Would have been better off eating...

The menu says they have gluten-free pasta and pizza, but once they lure you in, "they only have regular pasta today." Well that's after we sat down and they had brought our drinks. So we stayed. The food is mediocre. The place is empty because everyone has found out by now that this restaurant has no plans to improve, regardless of what they respond in the reviews. They apply a mandatory tip to your bill, and then the waiter tells you it is for the restaurant, not for him, so you must leave him a tip in cash. What?? Other restaurants don't do this. The place looks nice, but with this kind of behavior from the staff, which the restaurant has not corrected after years of being told about it, it's obvious they don't care. It is only the prices, which are higher than the quality of the food, that keeps this place going. Stay away. Note to restaurant: no need to respond and ask for the name of the waiter, or apologize and say you will work to improve. It's obvious you won't.

We arrived and were placed at a broken table for a half hour without attention. After flagging the waiter for about 10 minutes after being ignored. We were finally moved and about 20 minutes later we finally had a waiter and we ordered, about 30 minutes later they told us what we ordered wasnt available so we reordered. Waited again another half hour for them to tell us they haven't even started cooking our food. We ended up getting the check and then walked out and went down the block and had the time of our lives at another steakhouse. We weren't the only ones; about 7 or 8 other tables also walked out while we were there as well. I will say even the wine was delicious though even though we waited over an hour and a half for a single glass, and it definitely was very romantic looking. The man who played the saxophone was incredible!!! but this place may have been the worst service we have ever had in our lives.

Excellent service by Fernando, even though this was his first week in the city, he really tried hard. Food was very good in general, pricey as is everything around the area. Noteworthy: We only had salads and a beer to refresh and kill some time. The very original ceasar salad was so original that it used corolla lettuce instead of the customary romaine, looked fancy but not so practical to eat. We asked for one salad without chicken and they took the chicken off all salads :( but we had a great time overall. Adding an extra star for a nice experience: very thoughtfully, we were sent a complimentary birthday cheesecake and the live keyboard player played both Las Mañanitas and the Happy Birthday song, which made the moment more special and memorable. Apologies to the readers on the half-eaten dishes in our pics!
