This little place was on the walk home, and I saw empañadas on the menu, so lunch was found. The service was quick and efficient, although not smiley nor happy, very professional. A half dozen seats outside and another half dozen inside provide what little ambiance that there is. The food itself was good-bad.
They were out of juices, so I had to order a plain lemonade. It came with no ice? Why is there no ice on a hot day? It was cool-ish on arrival but warmed up too quickly.
The menu is a bit Halal middle eastern with a couple sections for Basmati Rice and doners. Doners! Basically gyros, or they are supposed to be. The one that arrived was in a bun, not on a pita bread. The meat was too thick and chunky, and overall, there was not much taste. There was sauce either, so it was rather dry. I didn't eat any of the French fries.
They advertise empeñadas, which is why I stopped. I LOVE empeñadas! So I order one ground beef and one pollo (chicken). The server gives me a look and puts her head inside and asks the cook if he has ground beef. Nope!!! She tells me no and sticks her head back inside and asks about the pollo. Nope again!!!
So I end up asking, "what do you actually have?" She asks the chef, and the only option is cheese or shredded beef. I ask for one shredded to go with my doner and lemonade. After a 15 minute wait, the food arrives and there are THREE empeñadas, not the ONE that I asked for.
But I have to give credit where credit is due. The empeñada was freshly made, super saucey and almost birria meat consistency inside, along with a perfect crust. The side of chimmichurri was perfect with ajo, parsley, oil, herbs, etc.
In summary, I would not recommend or return here, but I may get takeout empeñadas...
Read moreI had the chicken Chiptole French Taco. I was torn between 4 options and will have to go back to try the others. Specifically, the curry shrimp bowl, chicken burrito, vegan hamburger and the tuna steak.
The Chicken Chiptole French Taco was good. The sauce/ seasoning was slightly salty for me. I swapped French Fries for guacamole which was great! I didn't realize it before but the French Burrito had fries in it, unique.
There is a variety of goods options and they seem to deliver on most of them well. Everyone in our group enjoyed their food.
The atmosphere was open with a sense of seclusion. If you weren't paying attention you could easily pass by. It's centrally located and perfect for individuals or...
Read moreI have a rental in Playa Del Carmen so I come from time to time and every time I come I know one place that I can eat really well, Latin Street Food. I’ve probably tried everything on the menu and it’s all good, no it’s all the best in Playa! In addition to such incredible flavors of each item on your plate, their juices are outstanding, and absolutely natural. And I have yet to find the selection of juices that they have in any other place. (For example ,Maracuya Is impossible to find.) The chef is an artist! Treat yourself to an incredible...
